Would the Knicks be willing to take a one-year flier on Culver in exchange for their 2nd-round pick? They have a tone of cap space, which would allow them to sign a big-time free agent and still have more cap space left to absorb Culver's contract. A deal like that would give the Wolves a 2nd-round pick and room under the luxury tax to sign a free agent at around $6M.
I'd be happy if they just took him for the draft rights to a guy that would never come over. I'll take Sergio Llull draft rights just to add to the Spanish connections. Lol
The Knicks have 4 total picks this year 19,21 ,32 and 58. They have a number of upcoming 2nd rounders in the next few years. I wonder if they will try and package their picks to move up. If not and they pick 3 players they may be less likely to want to take Culver on.

I'll be at the draft
Wolves gotta act like they pick 61st and 62nd.
They should get the best rebounder and shooter left. No exceptions.

I like your idea here but to be honest will they even offer a fully guaranteed vet min deal for an undrafted guy? Unless they REALLY like someone I doubt it. They will probably just be offering 2 ways deals and/or maybe a non guaranteed deal.

I agree, Monster. Assuming they sign Bolmaro at rookie-scale and Vanderbilt at the minimum, the Wolves will only be around $1.4M below the luxury tax threshold with 2 roster slots left. So baring a salary/roster clearing deal, I don't see the Wolves signing an undrafted free agent. Moreover, I don't think Rosas is interested in adding any more rookies other than Bolmaro. The Wolves are a young team and Rosas is desperate to make the playoffs next season.
If the Wolves to anything on draft night, I see them a deal to acquire a veteran or a deal to clear salary-space to sign a free agent without exceeding the luxury tax. One possible deal Rosas should consider is dealing Culver to the Knicks for their #32 pick. More realistically, the Wolves could probably deal Culver for the Knicks #58 pick. That would give the Wolves close to $8M under the luxury tax, which would allow them to sign a meaningful veteran free agent. The Knicks have a lot of cap room. They could take a flier on Culver for one year and still have plenty of room to sign a franchise free agent or trade the rest of their picks for Bradley Beal.

Lip you need to pull some strings to get Culver to the Knicks. Maybe we can work on this in Begas if it hasn't happened yet. :)
It's worth mentioning there are also other ways to add young talent including guys that played elsewhere last year whether that's internationally or g-league etc. The Wolves ended up with McLaughlin and Martin in that way. Neither one of those guys are super exciting but what about Kendrick Nunn? There are guys out there that will end up being useful players for years. You know who would be a nice player for the wolves that wouldn't be the answer but would help them take the next step? A young Anthony Tolliver who was undrafted. Christian Wood is a guy that took a while to figure it out. Some of these types of guys are players they can sign to a 2-way deal.

Finding a guy to sign a two-way? Sure, Rosas can find them among undrafted free agents. But I don't see him signing undrafted free agents to fill either of our two remaining roster spots - assuming we sign Bolmaro and re-sign Vanderbilt -- unless he trades someone for picks or cash in a salary-clearing deal.

Agreed.
My point was there are other options and some of them could be non-guaranteed deals that turn into something. Heck they got RHJ last year and he was more proven than the long shots I was mentioning they COULD sign to a similar deal.
If I was an undrafted guy I would see an opportunity with the Wolves as they don't have the answer at PF. I think everyone expects them to do something at least decent to address the spot next to Towns but an example is Naz Reid signed a 2-way deal and outperformed that deal in summer league and got an NBA deal. The Wolves have played hardball with McLaughlin but they also have an example currently on their roster of a guy that is more than an afterthought in Naz. Even if the Wolves don't give a guy that outperforms their contract I think an NBA team would have offered Naz an NBA contract after spending a season as a 2-way player. I won't be surprised if the Wolves try and sign another PG with a 2-way deal (not certain McLaughlin is back) and the other 2-way deal sign a PF or center guy.

Regardless of who's on the roster, they need to keep finding guys on two ways who they can eventually keep here. Naz has been very good. He has 2 years left. Nowell has 2 years left. After this season there's only 6 guys under contract. There must be a pipeline of players still coming in. If they can pull off the dream trade I suggested (Culver absorbed by Orlando's TE for a 2nd rounder in '25 and Layman absorbed by the Pacers) that's 2 less bodies that have to be filled somehow, even if they're guys who won't play.
I was reading Hollinger's free agent BORD$ rankings on The Athletic and the pickings are slim for vet minimums. I really think we gotta use the BAE this year to add 1 guy in the front court or at backup PG.

Last year Hollinger claimed RHJ was worth quite a bit of money. RHJ had a hard time getting a job. I'm not suggesting Hollinger is completely incorrect (I tend to think RHJ is reasonably valuable player) but I'm saying that the league may not match up with his evaluations. He has PJ Tucker as a vent min guy and Harkless as a guy worth 7 million. I'd put money on that dollar amount being opposite. The market for PJ Tucker is going to be exponentially higher than Mo Harkless although I think Harkless could be a value signing for some team. Heck I wouldn't be shocked if the Wolves would be willing to go into the luxury tax if it meant being able to sign Tucker with part of the mid-level.

I've never thought much of Hollinger, so I'm not surprised he was so wrong about RHJ's value.
As for PJ Tucker, Rosas would be nuts to sign Tucker if it put the team over the luxury tax threshold. Tucker is a guy you add when you're already an elite team seeking to shore up your roster for a championship run. That's not the Wolves. Moreover, Tucker will turn 37 next May. So he's already on borrowed time as an NBA player. I honestly don't think PJ's market value will be all that high. He'll make sense for a few teams like the Lakers and Nets who are championship contenders from day one, but who lack cap space or trade flexibility to significantly upgrade their roosters.
