You guys are all nuts (well, I guess we all are by definition since we follow the Wolves :) .)
Is Smith even better than his former teammate Jarrett Culver? I may like Smith actually but this return for Covington I'd rather just keep him the entire length of the contract and I'm not against trading him. That's not enough of a return IMHO.
Covington should return a relatively massive haul because of his value and his contract. Tobias Harris is a different type of player but Covington will cost a whole lot less in terms of salary than Harris as well. The Sixers gave up a haul for him we should be expecting 2 legit assets in return for Covington. We don't HAVE to trade him but there is and will be teams that want him enough to give up something worth letting him go. Covington's salary should make it relatively easy to find a trade partner. The Wolves should have a high price to get him. If the Wolves take back some salary for next season in the deal and that ups what they get Is be ok with that also. Covington is a legit asset he is doing the things he has done for years and...he has missed one game so far this season which ties him with Culver for most games played for this Wolves team that has been hit pretty hard with injury and illness. Also...it would be nice to like actually get a shooter back in the deal.
The deal I'd try to make would be Covington to Denver for Porter Jr and Grant. Porter Jr would be a home run swing we need on the wing and Grant can actually play small ball 4 and had been shooting really well from 3 last season and so far this season. Denver gets a reasonable multi-year role player deal who's better than both guys right now on a team full of big deals. At least we'd get a known decent player back in Grant who fits our new team vision and we'd have a shot to develop long-term 3/4 piece in Porter Jr.

That's an interesting deal. Porter Jr looks good but a huge injury risk. Im sure he would play less than 10 games for the Wolves before retiring.

Porter Jr is apparently untouchable. Also I don't know if they would do grant for Cov straight up. I think that is close

Porter hasn't played a lot but he has played in 24 games so far. I know before the season supposedly the Nuggets organization was raving about him. It's limited sample size obviously but his per 36 numbers come out to 19-10. Would they even deal him? That could be a legit question. The Nuggets have some pieces they could move in a deal for Covington that's for sure.
I just don't see any worthwhile trades out there for Cov. He is a legit two way player that every title contending team needs on a friendly contract. I just don't know how we replace that in a trade.
I tossed out Kuzma (throw in ACL tear Cousins and another scrub for salary match) for Cov. That might be an option that could be a win/win for both teams.
I think that the Lakers might covet Kuzma more then we do though. I'm not sure they would do it. He's not exactly a star at all, but is solid and still relatively young at 24 y/o.
The one totally fake trade that I sort of like but I don't know if it would be done or not. The Pistons have a ton a pressure by their ownership to make the playoffs this year.
So Cov for Sekou Doumbouya, a top 3 protected 1st round pick and Rose (or Galloway based on if you want a 6th man in Rose or an expiring in Galloway.)
Wolves a lotto pick from this year in Sekou Doumboya is averaging 16.5 pts 5.2 Rebs and 1.4 asts on 38% from 3 (5.2 attempts per game) in the G League and he was suppose to be super raw and has shown flashes in the Gleague. Add a more than likely late lotto pick that can be traded in the future or can obtain another lotto rookie in this upcoming draft. I added Drose to make salary work, who has not been happy with his role in Det. He would be our sixth man again and another shot creator that the Wolves desperately needs. Or instead of Rose you could add Galloway who is on a expiring deal.
Just a thought, I just know that the pistons want to make the playoffs and you would get 2 young players that could boom and a possible solid role player for now in Rose or Galloway.
Sekou and PJ Washington were my top choices had we stayed at 11. PJ looking really good so far, but hadn't heard much about Sekou's development and just saw his G League stats. Surprised at how efficient he is, pretty close to 50%, 40% and 80% and with decent rebound, steal and block numbers. I'm still not sold on trading Cov, but you could do a lot worse than Sekou and a first (I really have less than zero interest in Rose, don't want him taking minutes away from younger guys and don't like his ISO ball).
