But if someone like John Wall started get antsy we have as many assets as anyone to make a sweet deal for a player like him.
John Wall is an interesting case. A former #1 pick with elite size and athleticsm for a PG. He's become one of the best assist men in the game, but also one of the most inefficient volume scorers. Inefficieny + volume is generally not a good combination. He is a net plus for his team, but not as much as Ricky Rubio has been with the Wolves. I'm not sure where I rank Wall on the list of top PGs.....
But you're not implying that Rubio is a better NBA player than Wall? If so I am really confused.
I know he was the Cav's leading scorer in preseason, but I still have zero interest in him. To me he's a chucker who shot under 40% and has no other above average skills.

I'm not implying that Rubio is better than Wall, however, I do question how good he really is. He chucks up a lot of shots that don't go in. I wring my hands about Wiggins' inefficiency relative to other high scorers around the league, but he looks very good compared to Wall!

John Wall is overrated as hell. Pretty poor scorer who keeps shooting. Rubio is the better player in terms of skills and IQ. But the gap in athleticism is huge and it makes Wall the better player overall. You can't just ask Rubio to carry the team like Wall does. He will fall apart trying to do everything for his team like Wall does. But for situation like Minnesota Rubio is the better PG. Rubio is cheaper, better playmaker, better defender, better locker room presence. Wolves have 3 scorers who are or will be better scorers than Wall, so his ability to put up shots isn't needed here. His a poor shooter to boot so he can't offer any floor spacing and that's probably the main point. Again I fail to see the appeal of Wall over Rubio.

I think you answered the appeal. It is an athletic league, Wall is the better athlete and better player. I think you make some valid points about consideration about fit and some of the characteristics that make Rubio a potentially better fit here. But Wall has a lot of appeal, and his basketball IQ is high, I really disagree with that part of your take. Great passer and floor general. Inefficient scorer because of the chain of command in Washington. He has to have a good deal of the scoring load there because of a lack of options outside of him and Beal.
Bottom line I was really throwing Wall out there as someone who is better than Rubio who may be available at some point. There would be others that could emerge.
If it was up to me, I'd deal Dunn before his value begins to plummet. I think today is the highest his value is ever going to be. We have a capable backup in Tyus who is going to get shoved to the background. Dunn could bring back a nice piece, and I am personally okay with Ricky being our starting PG for the next 5 years.

Athleticism is a double-edged sword. It's good when you have it but if something happens to you (cough D-Rose), you are in trouble. Players like Wall don't age well too. And he's an inefficient scorer because he can't shoot and hasn't mastered the art of putting himself at FT line. Plus you don't know how he will react when you push him down the pecking order. Will he *itch? Because some players do. Like Aldridge in Portland didn't like Lillard's rise.
And better players that may emerge most likely will come via trade at high cost. Are you ready give up Wiggins or LaVine to upgrade the PG position.
And there's no way Wall got higher IQ than Rubio. That's basically all Rubio got that makes him the player he is.

Interesting take Cool. Do you have any pieces in mind in a deal for Dunn? I think we both know this is pretty theoretical but I'm curious what value you think Dunn could fetch.
