I just think it is the wrong rule to crackdown on. Work on calling the other stuff correctly, not focusing on stuff 30ft from the basket. I've seen a couple called that I couldn't see a travel and it came off as them making a phantom call to be sticklers. It's just an easy one to see when it's abused because the guy usually hesitates and fakes one too many times and goes without dribbling. If it's borderline it shouldn't be called because it makes the game less fun to watch. Give the big men a break. It's more fun watching their train wreck, out of control drives to the basket that result in casualties everywhere because they don't know how to do it correctly.

My thing is they are calling ticky tacky traveling calls that doesn't affect the outcome of the play. Call the traveling when it affects the outcome of the play. Essentially the league is affecting the outcome of games with traveling calls so far from the hoop giving the ball to the other team.

Not a big fan of it...

1) It's 30 feet from the hoop so it's not usually giving the offensive player much of an advantage anyway...
2) It's wildly subjective, which back to my original post... younger teams without as much "reputation" are going to get screwed on it more by officials looking to make it a point of emphasis.

My hope is that the players adjust and the officials start to back off. It reminds me of that one year when they were going to call technicals everytime there was a demonstrative reaction to a foul being called. That lasted for about two weeks.....

Or any time a player touched the basketball after a made bucket, even to give it to the referee or opposing player inbounding the ball, they received a delay of game call. They were unbelievably strict on that for a while and then eventually it was realized that a whistle wasn't needed every time.
