Traveling. And big white foreign guys.
So, we've all seen the traveling calls. Every game.
In fact, I think Bjelcia has been called for steps initiating his move 30 feet out at least once in every game I've seen. Obviously, this is the rule-du-jour that the officials are cracking down on.
But this is the NBA. So, USUALLY this kind of focus on rules comes with a caveat: Rookies and foreign players get called on it more often. The rule doesn't apply to superstars... and if so... not for long. I haven't seen THAT much other NBA action, just a few games. I haven't noticed the traveling call being as prevalent with other teams.
Have you?
The second question is will it be like other NBA rules where they stop calling it on superstars almost immediately... then eventually on everybody else by the midway point of the season? Oh, and apparently, the 6-steps to the hoop non-call is still cool. Anybody see that ridiculous DJ Augustin "non" travel last week?
[note: i feel for bjelcia a bit. tall white guys new to the nba rarely show up with respect from opposing players or officials. that seems to be the case right now. we saw the respect teague and maybe even bazemore showed the guy. and nobody has been a bigger target for traveling among nba officials that i've seen.]

Good topic Abe. I have only seen one other non-wolves game and that was the first half of the Cavs Sixers game. It sticks in my mind that there were some similar traveling calls in that game but maybe not. Abe my major issue with these perimeter travels is that they seem to be calling it way too tight considering they understandably miss other calls. It's a tough game to call and without looking really closely at some of those calls it seems some of them are too picky. Keep in mind some of these games I have watched in my phone so maybe I don't have a perfect view of those calls.
Ultimately Bjelica and the other guys should figure it out enough and the refs will probably lighten up on the call some. It looks like Bjelica has decided to actually shoot the damn ball more when he should which helps the traveling issue.

This is probably the only issue in the world where we can say "poor tall white men".

Pretty sure there are many that'll still call you racist for saying it.

These travel calls feel like fake effort from the league. I'm sure they've heard complaints about how many steps guys are taking so they decided to crack down on the easiest, least impactful area to give the appearance of making the call.

I gotta give the NBA credit actually. They have for years tried to crack down on various stuff I think the effort is actually real but it's so tough to officiate basketball. One thing that I like that they have cracked down and stuck to is leaving the ball alone after it goes through the hoop by the offensive team.
Side note: I get the ruling on Teague with the retroactive FF2 but it feels like he should miss a game for that and he won't. Fortunately the Wolves ended up easily winning that game so I will let it go but begrudgingly so.

I looked at this title and assumed this thread had something to do with fitting big white guys on planes.

@JimPeteHoops: We talked about the rash of traveling violations against the Wolves last night. Here are the numbers to back it up. https://t.co/GsCkGjBou0

Thanks for posting that Monster. Median is about one call per game. I guess I kind of look at this positively because it's imminently fixable, meaning there is an opportunity to slice an average of about 1.5 TOs per game off our current "run rate". As a squad already exceeding expectations in certain areas, you want to look for ways to improve further. This seems like low hanging fruit.

Agreed. Did anyone else look at the numbers and think? "Ok so this is real...wait only 19 travels? It feels like double that." Lol
