Absolutely terrific article, monster...thx for posting! Off topic, but I'm a big fan of women sportswriters...they have a way of capturing certain aspects of sports that elude us men...good development in journalism, I think.

Yes, KG is certifiably crazy! I thought I had heard all the crazy stories, but there are some new ones here...and probably some we still haven't heard. But despite all the craziness, reading the KAT portions of this article makes it impossible to ignore KG's mentoring impact on him. I also think the change in Wig's demeanor this year has a lot to do with the presence (fear?) of KG. Add in his on/off impact on the defense, and I conclude that he may be underpaid. He's on pace to play 70 games...exceeding even my expectations, and our stupid moron coach is employing him perfectly.

I've never been a big fan of KG the man...too mean and intense for my taste. But he is exactly what I admire in a basketball player...truly one of the all-time greats! And I think he has mellowed as a person a little too, not so much on how he drives himself, but more on how he drives his teammates...a little bit softer now, although still effective. Those of us who go to games only have to watch the interaction he has with his courtside daughters before and during the game to see the soft side of this complex man...I love the salute he gives them pre opening tips. There's no question that Flip gave us a huge parting gift in allowing us two more years of this great player.

And you know he is on the LST playoff train!

One of Flip's comments after acquiring KG is "put more dawg in Wiggins"...

Who let the dawgs out?!? (okay, that was too corny!)

Great article. There is no doubt KG is having an effect on this team. Vets bring culture. I love the way this year is going so far.

It should come as no shock as to how this is playing out. Even in his MVP days KG was always an unselfish player, sometimes too unselfish the same has never been said about Kobe. The fact that one has had no issues transitioning into a role player who's main job is to mentor younger guys (even if by his own strange ways) and the other still believes he's the man and with his ego would never stoop so low as to be a role/mentor guy isn't shocking in the least.

A couple things that stood out to me:

KG talking about ego not getting in the way...this team has some real young talent and maybe at some point some guys will end up moving on but I could also see a scenario where all these young guys be part of something special with some guys accepting smaller roles. Flip had that vision and look at GS. It's a deep talented roster. The Spurs have had guy sacrifice for years. If KG helps guys be willing to stay the course to do something special and stay together that would be pretty significant.

KG and Sam are the guys leading this team...oh boy you better bring it they are gonna bring it. Can you think of any guys on the roster that you worry won't be able to take what Sam and KG brig even though they are probably both softer than they were years ago? I really can't. One guy I think about that might not have done well with those guys is Bennett. He seemed like a guy that needed to be pushed but also needed to have a less intense setting than both KG and Sam will bring. Lol It's a small thing but I think Rudez is sorta good for the team. He always seems ready seems comfortable and confident and seems like he has a bit of a cheerful joy about him without being too smiley. He seems like a good buffer on the roster to a certain extent. I am not suggesting he is absolutely key or anything but he could have a little sliver of value towards team chemistry this year.

Kobe 1 for 14 against the warriors last night, way to step up Kobe and challenge them. At least our guys gave them a fight!

@LST, nah you can start the game thread, others here have better previews so it's all yours. I'm just jealous that I couldn't make summer league!

You guys are being really mean to Kobe. In all fairness, he only airballed 2 of his 13 misses, and he almost made his 9th shot (a layup).

Despite a couple hard hit balls I think he looks lost at the plate.
