KG and Kobe
I'm one of the ones that sort of smirked at the whole mentorship thing over the summer and felt that we overpaid for KG by giving him two years. It's not that I didn't want him on the team - I just didn't see it as something that would move the needle a ton. That being said, I think he's played the role to perfection. How much of an impact does it make in terms of Ws and Ls? I don't really know. But at worst, he provides solid defense and lets our young guys shine offensively. At best, he's the heart of the team and largely responsible for the improvement on defense. Either way, it's all good. He's come to grips with his shortcomings, yet knows his strengths - one of which is being the team's greatest cheerleader.
Now compare that to Kobe. He also has some nice young talent around him. Yet guess who leads that team in shot attempts? Yup - Kobe. And guess who is the worst on that team in FG%? Right again! So the guy with the worst FG% is taking the most shots, essentially freezing out the future of the franchise.
What a contrast. What a shame for Laker fans (tee-hee!).

KG truly is selfless with this team. He knows his role and doesn't deviate one iota. I have to admire him for that.

Wow! Are we going to see a compliment for Sam next?!? ;-)
Re: KG and Kobe
Honestly I am kinda surprised at how bad Kobe has been. I figured he would be a little slower look older but still do some decent damage before getting hurt again but yikes. Or maybe he is just going through a Kevin Martin stretch he will turn it around...lol
KG has been what he was brought here for. That's a good thing. This team feels like it is a legit NBA team and KG gets a little piece of credit for that for what he brings. I don't know what Kobe brings to the Lakers that positive right now and they suck and they do have some legit talent on that roster. Tonight Kobe is 1-14 right now against GS. Brutal.

Re: KG and Kobe
One play from tonight's game sums up Kobe Bryant's "mentorship"...
So the prized rookie, Russell, has the ball on the wing with about 10 seconds left on the shot clock. Bryant runs over there to grab the ball. Russell hands it to him... Kobe takes one dribble and shoots a three pointer that misses.
Yuck.
[Note: Bryant is one of "those" guys. You know the type. He comes out in the media talking about how he's trying to teach the young guys to move the ball. Bullshit. Actions speak louder than words. Bryant is a very selfish basketball player. His skill trumped that selfishness back in the day. No more.]

Kobe's situation is on Byron. Byron is a complete joke of a head coach right now. Some of the quotes from the post game tonight are a joke and he should never work in this league again. Byron has enabled Kobe's bullshit all year instead of shutting it down.

Re: KG and Kobe
Watch how KG closes on an opponent on the perimeter...even at 40, he may close quicker than any other defender on our team. He can't do it for more than 20 minutes a game, but he's not missing games, really helps our defense, knows his role on offense, and is a superb teammate. Congrats to Flip for this move.
You guys are missing the main thing about Byron Scott...his girlfriend looked really hot sitting on the baseline in Vegas. Have to admit my binoculars swung over in that direction a couple times.

Yeah, forgot to mention it. I got there about 4pm and checked into my hotel, and then I... What, you've heard this already? Whoops, sorry  .
Just for that, Lloyd, you have to start the game thread.

Good on you Q. I guess you are drinking the cure all magic KG mentoring potion now?
