Yeah, Middleton is playing really well this year (good coaching anyone!?). I was thinking of the version from the past 3 or so seasons vs. the one we've seen so far this year.

Coach Bud has eliminated nearly all of his mid-range shots and replaced them with 3's. What do you know, but his efficiency has rocketed up as a result. I think half the improvement with some of these guys is simply the fact they get a constant green light to shoot the 3 and they do so free and easy.

I just looked up Middleton's stats...he is still only 27. It was always weird that he didn't shoot more 3's because it was pretty obvious he was a good shooter and thank goodness someone got through to him.

If he were on the open market right now as an unrestricted free agent I bet he commands between $15-20M per year, may be even a bit more. He's somewhere in the Gary Harris-Kris Middleton tier if you ask me.

I generally agree with you on his salary range. So if you had to pay Richardson and Waiters a combined 22-23 million it would be worth it? All this is obviously hypothetical.

I know there are salary matching issues at play here... but in my advocacy of a trade for Richardson, I'm not tied to Waiters in the least. Nor should/would the Wolves be.

Unless you think Waiters can be offloaded separately then they are attached at the hip when it comes to value. It's not just Josh Richardson for 10 million if it comes with 11.5 million of untradeable Dion Waiters. That's when you have to consider the value of that 22 million pairing versus the potential of using it elsewhere. Can you get a guy or 2 for 22 million that can match the value Richardson and Waiters give you? That's debateable. The Wolves should absolutely be treating that package as a pairing unless they are willing to part with another asset to get off Waiters. Waiters is signed through 2020. That's not a short term throw in. That's basically the same term Richardson is on because 2021 is a player option he'd likely decline.

Look at the starting lineup the Knicks put out there tonight against the Bulls. A couple of those guys that are basically nobodies are actually playing well...at least based on their basic stats. I said that was areason they were going to get rid of Noah. That's looking smart right now when you have a guy like Dotson putting up numbers like a pretty solid NBA wing.

I'm guessing Miami has already moved on from the idea of trading Richardson for Butler. Richardson's already a very good player and he's only gong to get better. Butler will be playing for some other team next season and the Wolves will miss the playoffs this season regardless of how many games he plays for the Wolves this season.

Yep pretty depressing actually. A player like Richardson is the exact type of player you target, kind of an under the radar player with upside. You arent trading Jimmy for another super star. Just another mismanagement situation by management.
