The progress of Josh Richardson continues...

Post by Q12543 [enjin:6621299] »

It's still early, but with 8 games under his belt so far this season, it appears that the improvement trend for Josh Richardson is continuing. He currently is at career highs in minutes, 3's made, 3pt%, rebs, blocks, and points. He sports a solid 56 TS%, WS/48 of .118, and a 16.4 PER. Most importantly, he leads his team in Net Rating at +7.0.

These aren't "blow you away" numbers, but all are trending in the right direction for a player that just turned 25. Even if he didn't improve a lick further, he'd easily be our best wing in the post-Butler era and he is a legit NBA two-way starting wing. He isn't the solution, but he can be a part of it....

Oh, and guess who the top two players are in defensive rating on the Miami squad? Richardson and Bam. Ya think we could use a couple guys like this?

Thanks for the positive reports, Q. I really haven't seen Josh play much, so I have been a detractor of any deal that makes him the centerpiece. Hopefully if we end up with him, his defense is something that makes this team better, because right now we are terrible. I suspect he isn't enough to make that much of a difference though.

Thanks for the update. Was just looking this morning also. It's a no brained to me, get Richardson and move on. The market isn't there. If I'm a Miami fan I'd be pissed if my team up up those two or even just JRich for a pending free agent in Butler.

The thing I like about Richardson versus Porter and Covington (two other "featured" guys in trade scenarios) is that it looks like Richardson is very capable of being a #2 offensive option. Porter and Covington are a lot more dependent on other guys creating good looks for them.

I still like Porter. But that price tag is steep.

Covington is what he is. I could be wrong, but he certainly seems to be a finished product... with obvious strengths but with a capped ceiling that's already there.

Q What is the salary you would be willing to pay Richardson right now?

If he were on the open market right now as an unrestricted free agent I bet he commands between $15-20M per year, may be even a bit more. He's somewhere in the Gary Harris-Kris Middleton tier if you ask me.

Khris Middleton might be a bit of a stretch... at least for now.

That guy has been more productive for an entire season... and then upped his game through the playoffs... and is playing incredible ball right now.

19/5/4 with a 63% TS.

[Note: Transgression aside... remember all of our Milwaukee vs. Minnesota takes on this forum. It's interesting that Jabari Parker isn't even part of that discussion.]
