This is absolutely correct. Flip was saying before the draft in reference to possible 2nd rounder es they were pretty full at the PF position and that's One of the positions that was likely to have depth there.
Felton has always had talent. His issues have been staying healthy and in some cases coaches have t used him well but some of that is on him. It should shock nobody that he is doing well in Dallas. They are getting something out of D-Will too. Coaching and a system and a very good organization will do that for you. I wouldn't have wanted to take Felton either. He has had plenty of problems. Flip wanted Tyus and he got him. If Inwoukd have had to give up the same offer to Dallas and take on Felton to get Portis I would have done it planning to just buy out or waive Felton.
We had Payne and Bennett on the team with NB and KG as strongly likely to also be on the team and Towns and Dieng both had the potential to fill in there as well if needed. There was no chance he was taking a 4 in this draft.

Would you have done that deal if you could have selected a guy like Portis?

Q's a big fan of drafting talented Euro players late in the draft who won't directly come to the NBA. They get to continue developing on someone else's dollar and then come over for cheap (compared to other NBA salaries). Take Bjelica for example.
I'd bet that Q would still have been against that deal, and I truly understand the reasoning. Myself, however, had Portis as a fringe top-10 player in the class. That's insane value at pick 22, where Chicago selected him. I would have done whatever was reasonably necessary to land him. Keep in mind I also didn't believe in Bennett at all and had/have little hope in Payne.
I am with you Cam. I wouldn't have let our group of PF keep me away from Portis.
The problem with trading all of those 2nds was we gave up the top 2nd pick. That is usually pretty valuable pick for getting euro players. I think Guillermo Hernangomez will have a much better NBA career then Tyus will. I think he ended up with the Knicks and we will likely see him next year.

I am gonna still wait for Q's response because I asked about a specific player in Portis. I know his stance very well because we basically share that stance in a majority of the situations presented or that become reality. Lol
