Did Flip turn down the 21st pick in draft with Bobby Portis on the board
HoopsRumors said this "The Mavericks tried to entice the Timberwolves into trading for the No. 21 overall pick this past June, with Raymond Felton attached, but the late Flip Saunders turned down the proposal, according to Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN Twin Cities (Twitter links). Minnesota wound up trading with the Cavs instead to nab 24th overall pick Tyus Jones."
If that's true. That's nuts. We could have used Portis in a major way and he slid way beyond where most mocks had him going. Taking on Felton wouldn't have been a problem if we could afford his contract. I actually think he's a good backup. Maybe Dallas wanted more than just us taking on Felton, like a second. But giving up the chance to take Portis because of a fixation on Tyus Jones is nuts too.

Could be a lot of noise there.
What else was included?
When was it offered?

If I remember correctly, Dallas wanted Gorgui Dieng in the deal. That was not going to happen.

Darren Wolfson ?@DWolfsonKSTP Jan 20
Darren Wolfson Retweeted Joe Perovich
Draft night 2015 in a trade. Dallas tried to have Flip take him to move up to 21. Got his guy, Tyus, by not doing.

We would have had to take Felton. That alone would have caused me to pass.

What is wrong with Felton? For a backup, he is a gifted passer, averages one three per game and 1.3 steals per game. His contract is cheap and expires. Dallas seems to be doing well this year, with him on the team. We can always cut him if we wanted to.

I'm referring to his character, or lack thereof.

Nothing is worse than the we left (fill in the blank) trade on the table. No one will ever know all the details, especially Doogie.

The only issue I am aware of is a gun issue. I have never heard of him being a poisonous influence and if he was, we could cut him.
