Abe - I thought of that but i wonder if a good coach wants of those headaches. If they were a great delegater I could see it working. Not sure who that person would be though.

Yeah, I dunno either. Every guy is different.

Obviously, Flip thrived on the idea of being one of the most powerful guys in the NBA. Van Gundy and Rivers have that power now. And rumors have swirled in the past that Thibodeau and the other Van Gundy were considered for dual roles.

Here is a reality:

This roster is loaded with talent and it's looking like the Wolves will be adding another top talent via the draft in a few months. This has to be a VERY attractive job for people wanting to run an NBA franchise. Coaches might be a little worried because the team is still young but damn the talent is there and if you are on the same page as the person making personnel decisions (who could be yourself or your handpicked guy) then you can make some moves to get players. Honestly Glen will be getting plenty of interest from people wanting the job and it makes sense to wait till the end of the season or at least later in the season to hire someone for either job. Sure hiring the right guy(s) now so that can get rolling would be even more optimal but I'd rather have the maximum pool available and get this thing right. Someone could still easily screw this think up by trading away some of the good non core players and end up getting nothing worthwhile in return. Bottom line is we shouldn't have to scrape the bottom of the barrel the Wolves hours be attracting some good candidates.

I'd be fine handing the HC/POBO job over to Van Gundy or Thibs.
Guys I'd be interested (not necessarily invested in) solely as a head coach:
Joeger
McHale
Del Negro
D'Antoni

I wonder if George Karl could be coaxed out of Sacramento seeings as there seems to be a toxic relationship between him and their best player.
Does Karls style of play fit this group?

I would consider Eric Mussleman. Not sure why the Gophers didn't look at him.

According to former NBA coach Jeff Van Gundy, Musselman is "as competitive of a guy as I've ever coached against. He's a brilliant offensive mind.

I've mentioned Eric Musselman before.

He had two years in GSW where he took a 21-win team to 38-wins and came in 2nd or COY. After another relatively decent season (37 wins without Arenas or Jamison from the year before) he was canned when the new GM arrived (Mullin) for the hot local college coach. The team under the new coach got worse.

He resurfaced in Sacramento years later where the Ron Artest/Kevin Martin/Mike Bibby trio nearly lost 50 games. A DUI that season didn't seem to help his cause.

Is there something else? I'd think his resume in only 3 seasons isn't bad. Although 2 firings in only 3 seasons might be a red flag... preventing other hires?

It'd be great to get a guy like Musselman with a guy like Thibs or Joerger. Kind of like an offensive and defensive coordinator in football. Obviously, you need guys who mesh and have similar philosophies.

Let's look at another side. How can you evaluate Milt? What can Milt be doing right now to show he is the man for the job beyond this year or even just do his job the best he can do right now?

Ok he could trade Martin and get some random young player (or any moderately surprising return) in the deal that looks quite useful. If he got back a nice useful young player like a 3 and D guy or a banger PF that could help his longer term cause.

What else?

Milt likely won't be able to bring in a new head coach but what about bringing in a coaching consultant to help his current coaching staff? The Suxers brought in D'Antoni is there someone Milt could bring in that's available to help on either side of the ball that also wouldn't be awkward? Idk Thoughts? Who is available? Milt brought in Gary Payton a while ago which was kinda neat I guess. What other connections does he have?

Can Milt encourage some sort of change in approach of how the team is going by talking to Sam and his staff? Sure he isn't going to completely change what they are trying to do but maybe steer them in a little different way. Bringing in another guy could add to this.

I'm not advocating for Milt to be the guy I am just wondering what legitimate stuff he could actually do right now. This isn't just on Sam and his staff Milt has some share of this too.

Thibs for both roles? I don't want him for 1, but 2 would be ridiculous.
