I am glad to hear we are cutting ties with Pek. Hopefully we can get a little discount on a buyout, but at least we can get a healthy player on the roster. I sure hope we don't stretch KG or Pek's salary like we strangely did with KMart. I want us to take as big a hit now as possible.

Well done Pek. You had one good year, everybody loved you, you grabbed 45 million and played a handful of useful games after that. One of the worst contracts in Wolves history.

I'll remember him for missing almost as many bunnies as he he did time on the court. One of the worst contracts ever given out to a Wolves player . IMO

I thought he was damn good the year before his big contract. The missed bunnies were earlier in his career, and in games he tried to play since his foot gave out.

As far as worst contract none will ever be worse than Joe Smith's. KG's first big contract was asinine both on the team's end and on his if he wanted a team built around him. But yeah, one of the worst no question!

Although I agree Pek's contract is absolutely horrible in hindsight....prior to that we did have him on a bargain. Too bad we couldn't get more good years out of him, but I'm glad for it to be an obvious decision now.

I liked Pekovic. He was pretty effective on the court, relatively speaking. And he had an entertaining hook as a muscle-bound European guy who looked like the dude in Superman II. Plus, he seemed to have fun with it.

He was more than serviceable when healthy. But as a guy already on the lower end of "athleticism" compared to many peers... it was painfully (ahem) obvious when he wasn't healthy. The bunny misses were more obvious. The movement was more labored. The stats plummeted.

Some guys just don't have the bodies, regardless of size, to sustain high levels of play in the NBA. Laettner Pek. You'll be missed.

Any contract becomes bad when the player is injured, but no one can predict that. Now giving an all-star catcher $180M and having him hit .265 when healthy? That is a bad contract.

Yeah, Joe's contract has hamstrung the Twins. But I would take issue with your comment that he has been healthy...he's certainly not the last half of this year, and hasn't been at least half the time since he signed the big contract.

I also can't use hindsight in analyzing Joe's contract, because I remember how I felt at the time. I thought it was a lot of money, but that the Twins had to match what the big money teams were offering. If he had walked, it would have been the biggest PR failure in the history of the franchise.

I think the same thing about Pek's contract, but on a much smaller scale. At the time, I was on board with the Pek deal.

I totally agree. It was not a perfect analogy because Joe has been hurt a lot. Also, I was totally in favor of the contract he got because the hope was he would continue the success he had in 2009 for the rest of his blossoming career. Just easier to deem a contract bad when the performance on the field has not lived up to the hype.
