Pek out for the season
Dos Glen really just say that? I think he might have.
2 roster spots open now.

Re: Pek out for the season
Shocking news. I don't get this anymore. Are they trying to do right by him by letting him collect the insurance money? Or does Glen like getting past the Salary floor without paying for guys? The guy needs to retire.
Re: Pek out for the season
Be declaring him out for the season, I believe we can apply for a 16th roster spot...

I remember someone in here posted a little tidbit about Thibs declaring Pek done when he just signed. I'm sure Thibs wanted nothing to do with cripples like Pek and KG.

Yeah, I posted that Thibs told a good friend of mine "Pek is done" when he was looking at my friend's condo in the Carlyle (where Pek coincidentally also lives ). But I also posted Arnie Kander's comments about his certainty that Pek would be full speed by training camp. Perhaps Kander wasn't the miracle man we made him out to be.
So, we now have clarity about the two big unknowns, and have space for 2 more on the roster. The Jordan Hill and Cole Aldrich signings look even better now, and the departure of two bigs looks good for Payne too. I think we're okay up front with KAT, G, Aldrich, Hill, Payne and Belly.

They cannot force Pek into retirement so it really doesn't matter what Glenn thinks. From a financial standpoint it thankfully isn't hurting the team and his salary will come off the books just in time to start signing the young studs to their second contracts.
There is one exception whereby a player can continue to receive his salary, but the salary is excluded from team salary. This is when a player suffers a career-ending injury or illness. The team must waive the player, and can apply for this salary exclusion following a waiting period. Only the player's team at the time the injury or illness was discovered (or reasonably should have been discovered) can apply for this salary exclusion.
The waiting period depends on the number games in which the player played in the season:1
If the player played 10 or more games in a season, the team can apply on the one-year anniversary of the player's last game.
If the player played fewer than 10 in a season, the team can apply 60 days after his last game, or the one-year anniversary of his last game in the previous season, whichever is later.
Regarding Peks impact on the cap it seems to me they could apply to have his salary removed from the cap now so I'm not sure exactly what's going on. It's curious that they haven't just waived him and then apply for cap relief. I would love to hear somebody else explain what I'm missing here!

Re: Pek out for the season
I'm not happy that Pek is hurt/can't play. But I'm happy that we don't have to play that "let's wait and see" game anymore. The last few years have all been similar. You don't hear anything. Then as camp draws near, we hear he's working out, but may not be ready to start camp. Then we'd hear he's getting close, but won't be ready to start the season. Then we'd hear he's targeting sometime after Christmas. Then he comes back for a few weeks and aggrivates something only to be shut down for the year. It's time to move on. I wish Pek nothing but the best. He was fun to watch when healthy. He just hasn't been healthy in years.

Sucks. Pek had his moments. At his best he was unstoppable in the post and an adequate defender, especially against bigger centers. Unfortunately he spent most of his career in a suit. It was time for both him and KG to exit stage right. KG deserves a better send off, but as an active roster spot he wasn't worth the money. Pek this season would have only been good for advertising for local tailors.
The fat is trimmed. Now on to training camp, and in a month the real fun begins.

Re: Pek out for the season
My guess is that Pek had a setback or the pain just was too much and he realized he wasn't going to be able to play anymore. Basically everyone knew this was going to happen it just was about when. I have been saying for a while this was quite a bit about Pek and when he finally decided he couldn't play anymore. I also respected him likely genuinely wanting to give it a go at playing again. I respect that. My guess it either way he is gonna walk away with plenty of money I don't think it was ever about that with Pek that's the sense so got from him. If this has been decided now the Wolves may be able to add another player to the roster at some point if not soon. If they get some cap relief that would be a nice bonus but right now it doesn't matter. All I know if Glen is probably very happy for the insurance policy on Pek's contract.
When healthy I don't think you will find a player that played more to his strengths and got a lot out of what he was than Pek. He knew what he was good at and stayed in his lane played smart ball etc. he had a little more game like a little jumper but didn't utilize it much. He is one of those guys that may not have been one of the best players ever but I will remember him quite fondly. He is easily the 2nd best center in franchise history and while that isn't saying a lot because there isn't much behind him the guy was pretty good after his rookie year and when healthy. It's a shame we couldn't see more from him. Fortunately we get to move on. I wish the guy the best in whatever he does.
