Waiting for the Courtney Lee fans here to chime in and say we should have got him...

I don't love the harris addition as much as others. I feel like he is guy who is good player bad team. He is not a good 3pt shooter. I feel he needs the ball in his hands to be successful. I feel like he is a little overrated. I also think it says something that magic traded him for a cap dump a half a year into his new contact

I think they wanted to clear a path for Gordon.

Possibly but why did they sign him in the offseason then. They got no value back for him because I don't think there was much value for him in the first place

I read from Zach Lowe that there's a wide range of opinions on Harris among league GMs.

Cap space is a magical thing. That's a big part of this trade for Orlando. Still Detroit didn't give up much to get a 23 year old starting level player that's signed to a deal that's sorta a lot of money but at least you are guaranteed to have him.

Tobias' deal is pretty fair in my estimation. Wait until you see what similar players get paid in the next couple years.

IDK, I think the trade was fine. They needed another real PG on the team with Peyton and they needed an upgrade at the 4 and they got it. Tobias clearly wasn't worth 16 million to the Magic because they haven't been winning enough with him for the past 4 years. 16 million for 14/7/2 while playing 30+ MPG's isn't getting your money's worth so this opens up playing time for Mario at the 3 to see what he can do. Worst case scenario they opened up a lot of cap space to get some frontcourt help this summer. At least they called it when they could see it wasn't working and get to move on quickly instead of just hanging onto him because he's a decent, but not great player. He just wasn't a fit on that team at all. Honestly I'm surprised SVG even went after him because he's only had 1 year above league average from 3 and you need to put good shooters around Drummond.

I agree Khans that it was pretty good trade for Orlando too. They lack three point shooting and both Jennings and Ilyasova have better career 3-point shooting volume and percentage numbers than anyone in Orlando roster except Fournier and Frye. Orlando has also Gordon who has almost identical skill set than Harris (check their this years shooting stats from basketball-reference) but is younger and more athletic.
I think Orlando tries hard to get playoffs this year and this move improves their changes little more. I wouldn't be even surprised if Jennings would be starting ahead of Payton, since his outside shooting would be better suited with other starters.

The Pistons/Magic trade seems like a salary dump. I wonder if the Magic would have interest in Martin for Jennings.
