I really want Russell out of this draft so I would have been happy at #3. Has anyone ever had the last 3 consecutive #1 picks on a team?
I really like Russell too, but we need a big in the worst way or this team will never be any good, and there are some bigs with a lot of talent at the top of this draft.
We just need to get the best player. To me it's a three man race between Towns, Okafor, and Russell. Flip and his team need to nail this. If they do things are looking great for us.
With the game moving away from the C and moving towards the three point shot, Russell may make the most sense. If we have a good offer for Rubio I would strongly consider it.
It would be very tough to pass on a big though. We have nobody on the roster who we feel good about as a future starter at either PF or C. Towns is theoretically the perfect modern NBA center with his skillset.
I think this draft should be quite easy to call. Both us and the lakers will take towns/okafor and the sixers and knicks should get russel/mudiay. They are all team needs and good fit to the team. I can see the magic going with porzingis here.
1 thing though, I didnt want the lakers to get a top 2 pick here and they got it. They are going to have a quick rebuild and be a competition for us in the playoff race. A towns/okafor and if they could add love to team with kobe and clarkson then you have something going for them.
If all 3 players were equal on the Wolves board, I'd take Towns, because he gives you rim protection, he gives you rebounding, he gives you upside, he gives you someone who shoots well from in close as well as can stretch the floor a bit, and can hit free throws. Okafor will probably be a very good low post player, and possibly even eventually develop a mid-range game, but I don't ever see him being a defensive stopper, and we need one in the worst way.
Draft Express has us taking Towns and Mickey. If that happened we would have 2 guys that average over 2 blocks a game last year in college (Mickey averaged 3.6 pg)
I get Towns fills a need, but my gut says that Russell will make the biggest impact in the NBA. I would shop Rubio and maybe we could get the Kings to give up the 6th pick for Rubio and Martin.

I would definitely shop Rubio. If the Kings go for that offer I pull the trigger.
