The only other times that may rival this as being the best time being a Wolves fan are probably the KG/Marbury year when we first beat MJ's Bulls and then the WCF year with KG, Spree & Sam. It's such an exciting time with so much promise and potential going forward. It's going to be one hell of a summer and '15/'16 season. I can't wait!

Thanks for bringing me down BT!

You just pointed out how fleeting our most exciting eras have been. Beating MJ and the bulls and then Steph wants out. KG, Sam and Spree in the WCF only to have injuries and contract issues destroy the team the following season. I am starting to expect the sophomore curse to return.

I sort of look at the upcoming season like an unwrapped X-mas gift. Of course I'm super excited and can't wait to see it. But part of me is bracing myself in case it's an ugly sweater or a pair of socks vs. something really great. We really can't afford to screw up this pick or it's going to be very tough to swallow (at least for me). Actually - that just gave me a thought and I'll start a new thread vs. hijack this one.

KG's money next year is irrelevant. Regardless of what he signs for, the Wolves only have the MLE/LLE to spend. And after next year, the salary cap goes way up. I know a few posters here will spazz out over KG's money, but it just doesn't matter.

I was thinking the same thing the other day. The money probably doesn't matter.

What makes getting #1 overall feel even better is there are 2 terrific bigs to choose from and that's exactly what this team needs. Maybe this is the sign we are going to break through. I still don't think it's sunk in that we are picking #1. It's weird. Lol

If Garnett took the vet min we would have some dough to work with assuming the cap is between 67-69 mil. Unless we want 2 1st rounders. It is really more about whether we want to just resign hummel, keep chase, moves like that. I hope to god Flip can deal chase, that could definitely free up some options.

Sign Bjelica BEFORE re-signing Garnett to the overpriced deal he'll likely get from this franchise.

One thing to consider is what the presence of Okafor does to an offense. You simply don't draft him unless you make him a focal point of the offense. That's a pretty big deal and it has a ripple effect on everyone else on the team. Obviously other great scorers of the past have co-existed with great offensive low post players (Bird with McHale and Kobe with Shaq are two examples that come to mind), but make no mistake about it, he needs a lot of touches or you're wasting his talent.

Then lets add a healthy 3rd year Shabazz into the equation. This guy almost can't help himself when it comes to scoring. It's not because he's a ball-stopper either. He WILL find a way to score, by hook or crook. He runs the floor hard, fights for offensive rebounds, and makes excellent basket cuts. None of those things require plays, yet he too can take guys in the low post.

So now you've got two pure scorers who are pretty limited in all other facets of the game, including defense. Where does that leave Wiggins? How does their presence on the roster impact his role?

Things to think about.....

(sorry if this wasn't positive enough, but it wasn't necessarily negative. Can we create an agnostic thread?)

Q your post is why I am not convinced that Flip is in on Okafor as some Minny media people think. Towns seems to fit the mold more of what Flip says he is trying to build than Okafor. I think there are Wolves people that are in Love with Okafor's talents but what does Flip think? Everything he has said since taking over the Wolves leads be to believe he wants 2 way well rounded players. That's Towns. To put a positive spin on things though if Okafor can even become the type of impact player Pek can be when healthy I would easily live with that and Okafor obviously has a higher ceiling than that.

Also please start a thread with an agnostic perspective. :)

This may be yet another re-re-rebuild for the Wolves. But at least this time it feels different.

The Wolves have 2 legit #1 picks to build around. That's a great testament for legit optimism. Does that mean they'll pan out as stars and the Wolves will be a real threat in the West? Not necessarily.

But at least we can dream they will with some sense of reality lurking...

I'm not sure we've reveled enough in the actual victory and what it means for us. So this will be the celebration / Tim's Optimism thread. Post your thoughts on winning the lottery and what you think it means for us going forward. Only optimistic viewpoints here please.

My take:

We have Wiggins, Lavine, Rubio, hopefully a much more durable Pek, Shabazz, Dieng. And now we get to add whoever we deem is the best player in the entire draft! We will have a legitimate chance at having back to back rookie of the year winners. The foundation is being laid for a very promising future. We have a future star in Wiggins, we have a very athletic and exciting roster, and if this pick pans out we will be well on our way to developing a big 3 in-house. Other than the year we made a trip to the NBA Conference finals, I'm not sure there has ever been a better time to be a Wolves fan.

See, here's my thing. U mention Wiggins Laine and Rubio and then mention Pek if he can be more durable. The thing is Rubios missed almost as many games as Pek and your just giving him a free pass in the durability department.
