I agree that monty is not head coach material. But I believe he is a very good assistant coach specialist type. His specialization is defense and I hope we give him a look as a defensive coach. He is not the guy you want to build a whole system with and make game time decisions but as a guy that focus on the defense of your team, he can help a team.

I know flip is not ready to step down as coach but if hoiberg is ready to make the transition to the nba then I want us to give him a shot. I can only see hoiberg coaching us or the bulls and if the bulls make the finals in the playoffs, I cant see them firing thibs. Hoiberg as coach and monty as one of his assistant looks like a fresh and good pairing for me.

I see winning the title as the only way Thibs stays and that might not be enough given the relationship with the front office. There's a reason his players are flat out broken down and not 100% healthy come playoff time every year and the front office knows it. They also know he only has 1 gear so he isn't changing a thing about his coaching style and philosophy which I think they really want some concessions on how many minutes he plays guys.

Good points and reasons why I don't want Thibs here. His reputation far exceeds his true value.

Thibs track record would make him the best head coach in Wolves history.

He wouldn't sniff the Wolves if they offered it to him... but I think he'd be a great get.

I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole unless he wanted to be an assistant to coach up the defense. The guy's coaching style leads to shorter careers and corpses playing for him in the playoffs. Deng, Noah, Rose, etc. How many more guys need to be broken for people to realize Thibs isn't worth it?

Disagree with this take only 4 guys on the Bulls play more than 30 minutes a game, while rose is right at 30 minutes. Jimmy Butler is the only guy who you could argue is being run into the ground. Rose was never rushed back. Maybe Noah and Deng are starting to get injured because they are now in there 30s. It is not like noah is Constantly hurt he is coming off a all nba second team last year.

So does flip and adleman be considered running players into the ground. I mean wiggins was 4th in the nba in minutes and over our last two coaches the wolves have been the most injured team. So are the wolves running players into the ground?

It won't happen but if thibbs is the next head coach he will be the best in franchise history

Also the Bulls were 16th in the league in games missed due to injury. I honestly believe that the statement of thibbs runs players into the ground is a media myth

It is not a myth. Couple of seasons ago most of his healthy starters played huge minutes. 2010-11 Deng played more than 40 minutes in 38 games. Derrick Rose had 16 of those and Noah 7. In previous year there was even more starters playing mega minutes. He is not anymore as bad as in previous seasons but still it was much more common that he played some of his players more than 40 minutes than that for example San Antonio or Atlanta would have done the same.

Chicago had total 46 games for their players with 40+ minutes. Atlanta had 4 of those and San Antonio 12. It might be true that Thibbs playing too many minutes is not anymore such a big issue since only Butler was playing high number of big minute games. Also it seems that Flip is currently even worse. Minnesota had 66 40+ minutes games this season. :P

It might still be a myth. The question isn't whether he plays guys a lot of minutes, but if those minutes then in turn cause or contribute to injuries. I honestly don't know if we can answer that question.

It seems like you used two extreme examples with Atlanta and San Antonio.

I'd like to see some other teams and how often they went above 40 minutes. Because over the course of an 82 game season, the Bulls only have one guy playing above 34 mpg. In the past, it was usually 2 guys.

It's largely been Deng and now Butler who have been around 38 or 39 minutes. Everybody else is in the lower 30s or even 20s for minutes.

[Note: Deng played about the same number of minutes for former coach, Vinny Del Negro, that he did for Thibodeau.]
