Hoiberg rumor-ish?

Post by A Friendly Flatulence [enjin:8907904] »

So long story short, my college squad reporter (who doesn't have an agenda or make stuff up) is a huge NBA buff (OKC fan). Claims that the Bulls FO have Fred Hoiberg lined as their soon to be coach assuming they fire Tom Thibodeau. This would really grind my gears but I understand why he would want to coach for the Bulls squad. But the Bulls could hit a few snags on their way to firing Thibs such as making the finals or winning it all. I don't know if you could still fire your coach if he does that well and not get killed by fans & media. So there is still hope Thibs could stay albeit not great

Anyone else heard any rumors of Freddy H to Chicago, Lip? or anyone in the know?

There's been some chatter in the national headlines about Freddy to Chicago. It makes sense from a lot of angles.

And the Magic are the team waiting to scoop Thibs up when/if he gets fired.

Flip doesn't give a shit about any of these coaching prospects right now because he's swooning over coaching Kevin Garnett for another season.

I'm not sure that's not why Flip doesn't care about adding a new HC. I wish he would have at minimum have been actively perusing these top candidates.

Here is the problem I have with Flip the coach and it has nothing to do with on the court. Flip the coach trades a first round pick for Young and a first round pick for Payne. I'm not so sure Flip the GM would do that. Trading for Young was a move to win this year, a move every coach would make but maybe not a GM. A GM has their eye on the future while the coach lives day by day. Trading a valuable asset like a first round pick for a team in a clear rebuild is painful. Teams built to win now can get away with a HC/GM all in one package. Rebuilding teams can't. I fear Flip will harm the future of this team in order to get players to win now. Had he not been HC I think he would have done what Ainge did in Boston and that is obtain as many future assets as possible. Instead we traded two valuable assets in order to win now. We aren't built to win now, so that backfired.

I would be so pissed as a fan if that happened and we didn't even talk to Fred. More so then dropping to 3rd or 4th in the upcomng draft.

I don't feel this needs a new thread and I will post it here as it opens up another spot for Thibs. The NBA is bizarre when it comes to coaching. I'll take Monty Williams.

@daldridgetnt: Source confirms Yahoo! Sports report that Pelicans have fired head coach Monty Williams. Truly a stunner after Pels made playoffs.

My thoughts. Pelicans didn't see a way in which they would extend Williams. Williams was pushing for an extension and the team decide the best thing for them to do was cut ties and get a long-term coach.

You are probably right. I always thought Monty did a nice job but I can see them maybe thinking he wasn't the guy to take them to the next level.

Monty's overmatched as an NBA head coach. No thanks on him.

I don't know why it's such a stunning development to a lot of reporters that Monty Williams was fired. He developed a non-ball movement iso-offense, despite the fact he had guards that can penetrate, shooters, and a freak in Anthony Davis. The only reason the Pels made the playoffs is because of Durant's injury, otherwise it would have been 5 straight losing seasons out of the playoffs. You don't keep your job with a record like that.
