Reusse on the Sports Show last night...agree or disagree
Re: Reusse on the Sports Show last night...agree or disagree
This would be the 2nd time he has taken that stance on the radio in the past week or so. I can't remember was his stance Love just being signed for 3 more years or is Love also happy and fully committed to the franchise. I ask because I've commented but haven't voted. Lol

- Love is a star/elite player in this league. You don't willingly trade them away for unproven prospects if you don't have to. Only reason we did is because the time had come for Love to force his way out, and honestly, you can't blame the guy.
- "You make this deal even if Kevin Love were signed for 3 years" You're a fool if you make THIS deal for Love when he's locked up for multiple years. With him on a three year deal instead of essentially just one, the price tag would be way higher. At that point, coming away with Wiggins, Bennett and a 1st is a big time loss and Minnesota would continue to be the joke of the league.
- It's easier to build a team around one star than it is to find a star in the first place. I'd take my chances putting a rim protector and a scoring wing next to Love within the next couple years instead of hoping for a 19-year old to become a star and then I still have to surround him with a team. This isn't that hard to grasp.
- By the numbers, we should have had a 50 win team last year. We didn't because of our bench play and our disinterested head coach. Who's to say Flip doesn't correct those issues this off-season and we came back strong this year to get that 6th seed some of us thought was possible? At that point, you probably have a happy Love in Minnesota while the team was trending upwards for a change.
I voted disagree, obviously.

1) Over the course of the next couple seasons, would the Wolves likely be able to pair Love with another star player (some sort of dynamic wing). This guy would need to be Loves 1a at a minimum.
2) If #1 isn't possible, are fans OK with riding Love, and whatever else we put together, to a spot in the playoffs, but not a realistic shot at winning the West or a Championship.
I just don't see #1 as a realistic option for this team given many factors. Therfore, I move on to number #2. I think it a realistic option that Kevin could ultimately lead this team into the playoffs over the course of the next 3 seasons, but I also don't think they ever really compete for anythig close to even a division title. They are probably a 7-8 seed in this brutal West at best...thus meaning a likely 1st round exit. Based on this, I am happy with the new direction. I am actually one that appreciates simply making the playoffs, but I just think that the trade assets we are getting could make us more competitive a couple years down the road.
Considering the Wolves had the chance to draft Curry and to a lesser extent, Cousins, I find your logic faulty

Looks like we have at least five "fools" on this board.
Monster, if you talk confidentially with people close to the Wolves, Kevin has never been "happy" here, even in his first year. So the statement assumes that he is locked up for three more years, continues to be productive, but hasn't gone through an attitude transformation.

I asked about Ruesse's position which is what I assume this poll is based on. If Love isn't happy who cares how many years he is signed for he can force his way out. I do think (speculating) if he was on a 5 year deal he would have given Flip another year.
I think all Ruesse is doing in saying this is making a very strong point that the return for Love in this trade is very very good.
Edit: I voted disagree because the wolves just signed Pek and added Martin a year ago I don't think you go young so quick after making those moves. I don't think the idea to make this trade regardless is ridiculous especially if you believe in Wiggins which obviously the people in favor of the deal would be. :)
Re: Reusse on the Sports Show last night...agree or disagree
The simple answer is obviously no, you do not make the trade. But if you consider any reservations that the front office could have about Love's attitude towards the organization and his ability to actually lead this team, then an argument can be made. Plus on a 3 year deal coming off an incredible individual season, his value would be the highest that it could be and may ever be. If Flip knew that Love isn't the guy for this franchise and those were the circumstances, then you could definitely make the deal. That said, I would expect an even better deal in those circumstances and so would Flip, so it probably wouldn't happen.

The part that bothers me about the point that Love hasn't made it to the playoffs wouldn't be so strong if that fact we haven't gotten close until this past season and the only other season we were eyeing the playoffs was Rubio's rookie year before he got hurt.
I definitely see there is some thought that even if Love was signed for 3 more years that you make "a trade" but probably not "this trade" as you should be able to get more.
He does a lot of things well but you have to start thinking he might not be able to do the little things that are needed to win consistently. There is definitely enough blame to go around and the argument that he needs help around him but I think a lot will be told this year on how the Wolves and Cav's end up.

Not sure what any of my post had to do with Cousins and Curry.

If Love were signed for 3 more years, he wouldn't be moved. Flip was willing to hang on to him for 1 year if the right deal wasn't offered. You don't just find top 10 players in this league so you need to build around them. We just didn't have the right pieces at the right time to get a second star next to Love. Who would the Thunder rather have, Lamb and Adams or Lavine and Dieng? We just missed the trade window to get a second star. Another one. If the Thunder don't win a title and lose again before they make it to the finals, Durant goes to a better market since he can't win in OKC anyway and they have Westbrook on the books for a year after that. They wouldn't take a newly signed Rubio/Lavine/Bazz and cap filler for Westbrook? Unfortunately, the only 4 stars in bad situations right now are Love, Melo, Rondo and Cousins. Melo would never go to a market like MN, Sacramento isn't going to trade their best building block for more young pieces when they are trying to build a winner themselves as soon as possible and Rondo has really dropped off since the big 3 left to the point where I don't think he would have been good enough to keep Love here anyway. We are just in the wrong window to get that second star. There's nobody that we could realistically trade for, we won't be able to bring anyone here in free agency because of the market unless we are a legit contender and we failed to draft that second guy with multiple top 6 picks. The window closed again so we need to start over and try to hit this window correctly.

I voted disagree.
Cam said it best: It's much easier to build a team around an existing superstar than it is to find a star to begin with.
We basically needed to re-tool our bench this offseason, as we had one of the best starting lineups in the NBA this past season. The combination of our draft picks, expiring contracts, and the emergence of Gorgui Dieng late last season gave us plenty of options and assets to go explore ways to improve our depth.
