Reusse on the Sports Show last night...agree or disagree
"You make this deal even if Kevin Love were signed for 3 years". The conventional wisdom is that the Wolves had to make this deal or risk losing Love for nothing. But Reusse stirred things up last night by saying it's a good deal for the Wolves regardless. I sense that I will be in the minority on his one, but I agree with Reusse. They have had 6 years to try to win with Love, and it hasn't worked. The Wolves' best chance to win is through draft picks, not free agency, and now thanks to LeBron, they are landing the first pick from each of the last two years (regardless of whether you think Bennett, or even Wiggins, deserved to be #1) and another first rounder. There will be some growing pains absorbing all these young players, but long-term this is a great move for this snakebit franchise. Vote, and discuss.

BTW, two other interesting tidbits from last night's show. Sid talked about a luncheon he and Mike Max were at a couple weeks ago, where Flip left the table for fifteen minutes to take a phone call and came back to the table beaming. Sid and Max said that there has been no discussion of the deal by the Cavs or Wolves since that moment (other than Taylor's stupid interview), so they are both certain that was the moment the deal was finalized. Reusse said the only thing that can kill this deal is if Taylor opens his yap during the next 13 days...he said Flip should put him on a plane to Bora Bora for a nice two week vacation!

I don't disagree with him its a deal that if offered you wouldn't immediately hang up the phone. I think if you have Love happy and locked up you don't do the trade because you have a fantastic player you know is good but I think its something you think about. Basically nobody trades stars (especially young ones) if they are locked up and happy. Its when they are getting older or something goes wrong these trades happen.

Of course its stupid. Rubio would be a FA earlier then, you would probably trade him before Love. I find it hard to believe that it's impossibble to build a playoff team around Love.
If you have Love under control longterm, you look to trade Pek, or Rubio, or hell just try to rebuild a bench and probably win the 50 games you were suppose to last year. Reusse is just being dumb in this situation

I think a new direction was needed and the only way you can build a championship contending team is try to find a franchise two way player. Love is a great player but he's best suited to be the second fiddle and he's the perfect fit next to LeBron. This is a win/win for Cleveland and the Wolves and Love and Wiggins. I haven't been this excited about the Wolve's future since KG and Marbury were young stars.

There are 2 questions you need to answer in this scenario to determine where you stand:
1) Over the course of the next couple seasons, would the Wolves likely be able to pair Love with another star player (some sort of dynamic wing). This guy would need to be Loves 1a at a minimum.
2) If #1 isn't possible, are fans OK with riding Love, and whatever else we put together, to a spot in the playoffs, but not a realistic shot at winning the West or a Championship.
I just don't see #1 as a realistic option for this team given many factors. Therfore, I move on to number #2. I think it a realistic option that Kevin could ultimately lead this team into the playoffs over the course of the next 3 seasons, but I also don't think they ever really compete for anythig close to even a division title. They are probably a 7-8 seed in this brutal West at best...thus meaning a likely 1st round exit. Based on this, I am happy with the new direction. I am actually one that appreciates simply making the playoffs, but I just think that the trade assets we are getting could make us more competitive a couple years down the road.

Excellent summary of this situation, Hicks.
I gotta admit I'm a little surprised at the early returns (5 agree, 0 disagree), although only about 20% of precincts have reported. I took a quick look at a similar thread on rubechat, and it was more evenly divided. The common argument is that you don't trade a top ten guy for unproven prospects, which I admit is a logical answer. But Hicks makes a more compelling argument for the "agree" camp, I think.

No reason we can't have both. I see a good chance for the team making the playoffs in Wiggins second or third year. Barring injuries, I think it will be a very quick rebuild. I don't know if Wiggins can develop as quickly as KG did, but he has got a year of college under his belt whereas KG came straight from high school and he has a better supporting cast than KG did. KG was an all-star in his second year and helped the team get into the playoffs.
