IF he stays out of trouble this is a pretty good signing. He joins Jarius Wright as the old farts of the receiving corp both turn 28 at the end of November. I watched the video of his incident that led to his jail time and house arrest...I hope this guy is trying to turn his life around.

For the #Vikings and new WR Michael Floyd, it's a 1-year-deal worth roughly $1.5 million with incentives up to $6M, source said.

Beat me to it. Low expectations for Floyd. I hope Treadwell beats both Wright and Floyd out for 3rd WR. It really makes me worried about Treadwell though. We draft 3 WR's (calling Bucky one) and then sign another as a FA. I wouldn't be shocked if he gets cut.

This is bad news for Treadwell who likely wasn't going to pass Diggs anyway and now has to pass an established quality receiver in Floyd to even see the field. Floyd is a good NFL receiver. His problems are 100% off the field so as long as he stays on the field he's highly likely gonna be in the top 2 and Treadwell just isn't a slot guy. Maybe Diggs moves to the slot if all 3 play well?

Slot is the easiest position to find an effective WR. Theilen can play there also.

Let's remember a couple things.

1. The Vikings lost 2 WRs that were on the roster and played a decent chunk of snaps on offense at times during the season.

2. Patterson was their KR so they drafted a couple guys hoping one would be their guy.

3. The Vikings lost Rhrett Ellison. They have an opening for a TE.

4. They let Zach Line go and while CJ Ham is working at FB is there really a guantee they keep a player for that role? Maybe they keep another TE instead.

5. What have the Vikings tried to find for years? A true downfield deep threat. Floyd if healthy (that's been a problem too even though he hasn't missed games) and out of trouble is exactly that and Bradford has the arm strength to chuck it to him. The other guys they drafted have speed.

6. Floyd is on a 1 year prove it deal and is a low risk high reward deal. He could easily end up the guy that gets cut if he isn't doing all the stuff he needs to do.

So the Vikings possibly have 4 roster spots to fill WRs and TEs and they added Hodges drafted 2 WRs and signed Floyd. There is plenty of room for Treadwell and he could be a nice complement to what the other guys do. The Vikings picked Hodges in the 6th round if they were really thinking he (or some of these other WRs) were gonna take Treadwell's spot they would probably have taken them earlier.

Having said all that there have been plenty of concerning comments about Treadwell from various media folks. I doubt he is in danger of being cut though. If he is it's because he sucks but also some other dudes really shine. This team did need more playeakers and they added some interesting options for Bradford to throw to without spending much in the way off assets to do so. Maybe none of these guys work out. Maybe Treadwell sucks too.

Monster that is a good view on things.

Looked back at Treadwell's draft profile. Interesting read on him. He seems like he could really use some time around a guy like Anquan Boldin. Oddly I think Boldin could have helped both WR and DB group that had to practice against him.

What does addition of Michael Floyd mean to Laquon Treadwell's future?

There's almost nobody the coaching staff talks about more optimistically than Treadwell...I look for him to have a really good season. I've never been a big Floyd guy, and look at this as merely a low cost depth move. 45 catches for 562 yards and only two TDs last year? There may not be much left in the tank for this guy.

I am with you on Floyd. I am not sure he beats out Wright. Treadwell is the guy I don't know about. If him and Bucky click this team is going to have some tough physical covers. One of the things I liked about Treadwell was he was supposed to be a good blocker. I think that becomes even more important with Cook.

Here is the thing about Floyd. His real value as I remember is as a downfield guy. He is not super consistent but again some of that is him playing through injuries and all that stuff. At times the Cardinals had a pretty deep WR corp as well.

I'm not suggesting the guy is great or anything like that and I do agree he isn't an absolute lock to make the team but I also think just looking at his stats doesn't tell the whole story with him either. He can't leave Arizona for a few weeks anyway so that will maybe put him behind other guys as well who will be able to be at all the team workouts etc. If other players including Treadwell show up and show they can play Floyd could end up with all the other vet receivers that are looking for work sadly waiting for a team to have an injury. Teams tend to go with youth if it's close at that position especially if the guy they are considering as a vet has some...um problems. One benefit Floyd has is he will likely be suspended and so the Vikings could keep him around durin that time because Floyd wouldn't count against the roster. Again that would give time for someone else to take his job. It's a nice low risk with some nice reward signing.

It's also possible that they cut Jarius Wright at some point to keep Floyd if a young guy shows som legit promise. I don't think Wright has much guaranteed money beyond this season. I like Wright I think he is super solid and can help a team as a WR. He got caught in a numbers game and also doesn't seem to offer anything in the ST game. Johnson and CP are big athletes that did work on ST (plus obviously CP was their KR) so that was another factor sometimes keeping him from being active. One of these young later draft picks could take his job. We will see. There is room for him on the roster I think though.
