Yeah, add that to the list of things Jim Pete says that annoys me. Saying that a coach has a four year window to win a championship or he never does it completely ignores the situation he's in. First, you obviously have to have talent. Second, you have to remain healthy. Third, you have to have the coaching. It takes all of these things. There are plenty of coaches that I think could win a ring that haven't because they were missing the first two things I previously listed.

I listened to Zach Harper's podcast yesterday with Matt Moore (CBS Sports Podcast). Zach's been around all the media in the Bay the last few days for the Warriors stuff has got the sense from everyone he's talked to that Thibs wants the job and is the guy. The sentiment I got was it's Thibs job to lose based on Zach's commentary. Moore has good ties to Memphis as a writer around that team for a while and his sources say Memphis is operating under the assumption that Joeger will be our coach next year. They make it sound like a Thibs v. Joeger face off for the job. I'd rather have Joeger because he has a solid defensive foundation and has some modern offensive concepts that he just hasn't been able to run with that roster in Memphis. He's also got the makes his teams better thing going for him because Memphis was missing Gasol and Conley for a large chunk of time this year and they still made the playoffs. Most teams don't make the playoffs missing their two best players for 26-30 games.

I think it is interesting discussing the next head coach. If Flip Saunders were an option, would we consider him? What I mean is, if he were the POBO, and wanted to make himself coach (again), would we be ok with it? I was not thrilled with him naming himself coach a couple years back, even though I really liked the guy. BUT, now seeing the development of the talent and the vision Flip had, I wouldn't want anyone else. His tragic death has unfortunately lead the team to this place, but my opinion on Flip as coach has changed in retrospect. I just truly admire(d) the man in so many ways.

Heh, I really like Jim Pete overall - especially after having past years on the NBA broadband package where the choice didn't always exist to get just the Wolves announcers. I've heard plenty of announcers and Petersen is absolutely one of the best.

However....I agree with your sentiment on this particular point. Petersen's observation makes absolutely no sense since the average tenure for any NBA coach is only 3 or 4 years, at best! So OF COURSE most of the titles won by teams had coaches between years 1 and 4. Guess what? Most of the worst-all-time teams had coaches between years 1 and 4. Most of the middle-of-the-road teams have coaches between years 1 and 4. Most of the perennial runner-ups have coaches between years 1 and 4....and so on.

Doogie gets a ton of venom from the fanbase but I don't recall reading a lot of his stuff that seemed or was way off base.

Really? I used to follow him on twitter and I thought he was clueless much of the time. Just doesn't seem to grasp reality very well.

We agree about Wolfson. He means well. I guess that should count.

IMHO I think you may be taking him a little too literally in what he said. I think he was making a few points in that a lot of guys don't get the chance past a few years, a lot of guys can have success right away and also at some point you have to move on. I'm sure he didn't think Jerry Sloan should have gotten canned because he didn't win a championship in 4 years.
