Butler requests trade...
Re: Butler requests trade...
If butler doesnt get moved this week. It will be interesting this coming monday seeing butler, wiggins and towns posing together in media day. Halleluah.
The wolves are screwed now. We have to move butler and we have no real leverage. I dont trust butler to be a professional and play ball if we start the season with him. This could turn out to be like the kawhi situation except jimmy is not as good or valued as kawhi is.

Predraft I was hoping to deal Butler for Doncic and filler. I highly doubt the Mavs do that now. Really no chance unless Butler changed his mind about Dallas and resigning there.
Anyways I told you so. Should have fired Thibs after the season, it's not too late. Should have traded Butler predraft.

I think KG pretty much has said it. Let's face it, Wiggins will get selectively motivated against a couple of teams and go the extra mile. But for the most part, we won't see it. I still have hope that may be, just may be, he actually develops a decent outside shot. We're stuck with him, so I gotta root for the guy, especially after this Butler B.S.
Just be patient, Q!
So now we'll have the games vs. Clevleand (assuming he's still getting up for those games now that James has moved on)... AND... this new team with Butler on it.
That's 4 or even 6 inspired appearances every season!

There's no way Dallas does that deal.
They're starting over... a 30+ malcontent with injury concerns doesn't really fit in with a team trying to reload on the fly as its 40+ year old former superstar goes into the sunset.

I accept it. He is what he is. If he starts swishing 3-pointers, I won't be nearly as bothered by the anemic rebounding and lack of effort plays. This is our only hope with him, since we know shooting can sometimes develop mid-career. Ball handling, play making, and motor? Not so much.

Hindsight is 20/20. It also would have been nice if Butler didn't wait until practically the eve of training camp to make his intentions known. What a dick.
And then there is Thibs. He deserves equal blame for letting this fester all offseason without making any effort to get on top of the situation and perhaps sussing out Jimmy's feelings much earlier in the offseason.
I blame both of them for this travesty: Butler for being an a-hole and Thibs for being a horrible people manager.

So whoopdee doo we made the playoffs and got thrashed and lost out on a lottery pick. An undesirable geographic location and small market team like Minny's only chance for success is organic growth. Build through the draft with young players is the way to go. Shortcuts won't work for us. It was a huge mistake for Glen to give Thib's the GM job.
I think what you fail to realize is that Taylor gave Thibs a mandate to win now. Thibs tried it with the young guys for one season and they could barely muster 30 wins. So he traded for Jimmy Butler, which the vast majority of objective observers lauded. And what have the players/prospect he traded away done in this past season?
While there is a lot to criticize Thibs about, he did exactly what was mandated to him by Taylor. He finally posted a winning record and got into the playoffs. Regardless of what happens, we finally got that effing monkey off our back. I'll take it.
Wait, are you an Ogre apologist? Glen wanted multiple championships not this crap. I think Glen is a terrible owner (so I won't defend him) but I can assure you he is very displeased with Ogre. Playoffs, schmayoffs, who cares? If you think being in the top 16 out of 30 teams with ten of them actively tanking is an accomplishment, then I can't help you. Why don't you go buy a "Wolves made the playoffs" t-shirt, I hear they are very popular.
Not a Thibs apologist, but yes, would love to buy that T-shirt! They weren't going to win more than 35 games with the crew they had if not for the Butler trade. So yes, I'll take a winning record and trip to the playoff versus yet another season of losing.
There is no denying Butthead is a great player. I actually love Butthead the player, but he is a cancer and he was a horrible fit for the young team we had. I was in the minority for hating the Butthead deal at the time, but I think if there was a revote today, the results would be vastly different. Losing Lavine, Ricky, two high lottery picks (Dunn/Markannen with the opportunity to draft even better players) and immense cap space to rent a Diva-divisive player like Butthead (and surround him with older and/or cap-eating players like Teague, Taj etc) is exactly why I hated the deal when it was announced. KAT is the future of the franchise and I think if Glen hasn't already made his mind up to fire Ogre, KAT's reluctance to resign will force his hand.

It wasn't hindsight, but sure IDK if we could have gotten a high enough pick or not for him at the time. But I did want to trade Butler because he doesn't fit the longterm plans. Lip also has been on the trade Butler camp. Not many of us were. I said fir Thibs after the season and I said trade Butler for a top pick in the draft.

Im pretty sure wig will still get up for those cavs games. Kevin love still plays for the cavs and they will always be linked. I would live to see a motivated wiggins go up vs a motivated butler.
