Taylor's gotta push this trade through soon. We're already gonna be taking a step back this year. We can't afford to waste a month of the season integrating guys because we bring them in late to training camp and the pre-season. This team without Jimmy is gonna need a lot of help to be a playoff team.

Yeah this seems like it could end up being one of those insane 4 team deals. If we get a player, a prospect, and a good draft pick from this deal I will be super impressed.

I don't even care about another pick. As far as I know we own all of ours from here on out? We have two 23 or under players signed to max deals, a young backup pg, a 1st rounder in patton, and two promising wings we just drafted - all of them need to be developed. Give me a starting sf and actual bench talent.

1st round picks are hugely valuable for trades and for talent acquisition. If we can get one that would be amazing and very helpful moving forward even if we don't keep it.

Would prefer some decently young proven players on value contracts ala Richardson and Warren types over a pick.

Was just watching PTI. I agree with Tony's take. "Go away Jimmy. Just go away. Wolves should trade him to Sacramento".

In the NFL you an trade a coach's contract. Could the Wolves maybe forgo draft pick compensation in return for some team taking Thibs contract off their hands? If yes I bet that would be one way no motivate Thibs to get a deal done!

Windhorst is reporting that Spoelstra really wants Jimmy so if that's true it bodes well for the Wolves. I kinda hope some team jumps up and trumps the Heat offer but if Hosh Richardson is really a Covington type guy with a good contract and we obviously get something more (including a pick) that wouldn't be a bad thing.

I agree completely, Doper.

Here's an excerpt from Woj's latest article on the Butler situation:

"The Minnesota Timberwolves' asking price to trade All-Star forward Jimmy Butler remains quality veterans, top prospects, future assets and salary-cap relief, which is presently too steep of a package for interested teams, league sources told ESPN.

Throughout trade talks, Minnesota Timberwolves president and coach Tom Thibodeau has continued to try to recruit Butler to ease off his trade demand and return to practice with the team, league sources said. Butler has yet to attend a Timberwolves workout and wants to sit out until the franchise executes a trade for him.

Teams pursuing Butler remain skeptical of Thibodeau's desire to execute a trade, believing that he's making counterproposals that Thibodeau knows teams will never accept."

I've bolded the passages that concern me the most. Of the two, my biggest concern is the Wolves pursuit of cap relief as part of the asking price for Butler. There are trade-offs in any deal. Asking teams for salary relief as part of a deal invariably comes at the expense of the talent obtained in that deal. It will be a travesty if the Wolves end up getting less talent in return for Butler by insisting on using the trade to remedy recent poor contract decisions. It would be a travesty AND unnecessary. Taj's $14 million contract expires the end of this season. Teague may not renew his $19 million contract next summer and he could probably be traded next summer with only one year left on his deal if he does want to renew. Gorgui's contract was a mistake, but the Wolves need to let it run its course at least for another 2 of the 3 years remaining on it. A better head coach might get more out of Gorgui in the meantime.

If the Wolves get Eric Gordon, get ready for the Hornets version of Gordon

I'm not sure how many future first round picks the Wolves would have to get for most posters here to be happy with a Houston deal. Chriss can't even be included (even if you wanted him) till the end of October. Get your favorite snacks and hunker down this could take a while. Or do something else. Lol

Zero interest in anything the Rockets realistically have to offer. Not Gordon, not Tucker, not Chriss, and none of their late first round picks.
