And Hornacek gets the Knicks job. Shucks. I was hoping Rambis got the gig!

Wow. Even Phil Jackson, the king of the triangle, couldn't get himself to hire Rambis. David Kahn stands alone as the only NBA executive dumb enough to do that.

Who does that leave? Orlando is looking at Vogel and Griffin. D'Antoni is the reported frontrunner in Houston. David Fizdale is the reported frontrunner in Memphis. It sounds like Blatt is left without an NBA gig, so he's contemplating going to Barcelona.

Yes, please. I'll gladly welcome D'Antoni to come coach Houston and continue with the shoddy defense. Just please stay in the East Frank Vogel!

It sure sounds like Vogel is heading to Orlando. So Vogel stats in the East, plus it puts Adrian Griffin on the assistant coach market, which many people think Thibs has an interest...

It's interesting that Phil picked Hornacek. I mean that's a possible solid to good hire but will Hornacek have to to the whole triangle thing? I'm happy that Hornacek got another opportunity but I'm concerned it's gonna work out badly for him.

Wonder who Thibs will end up selecting for his coaching staff. I'm guessing he'll retain Ryan Saunders. But I don't see him keeping any of the others. I would have liked Hornacek here as an assistant but that's obviously not going to happen.

So who will be bring in? And ideas? How about D'Antoni if he doesn't get the Houston job? Mark Jackson? Kenny Smith? If Kenny really wants to be a head coach, perhaps he should consider training as an assistant under one of the best with a up-and-coming exciting roster? Kevin McHale? No head coaching spot in the offing for Kevin so maybe he'd like the idea of being an assistant under Thibs with some talented big men (KAT and Dieng) to work with. David Blatt? I hope not! Pat Ewing? Phil Jackson, who just stepped down as the Knicks PBO? OK, that's way far-fetched. Not going to happen. Jeff VanGundy? Perhaps he'd like to be part of his good friend Flip's legacy as the #2 guy for the guy (Thibs) who used to be Jeff's #2. Yes, that's far-fetched too, but not improbably as Phil Jackson.

I suspect that none of the names I mentioned will end up as a Wolves assistant. But I thought I'd throw out some names somewhat outside the box. Who are some of the best offensive minds out there who would be interested and available?

I saw somewhere that Ryan was doing one of the workouts and Thibs was just an observer. I guess that could mean Thibs was giving Ryan a tryout not that he will for sure stay but it's worth noting.

As for other assistants names to throw out just for fun how about Eric Mussleman, Sam Cassel or maybe some of the guys that were on the Rockets staff this last year. Either way I have full confidence that Thibs and Layden will end up doing the work and have a top staff next year.

Musselman is an interesting angle, considering how Thibodeau started in the NBA.

I thought Musselman did better than he got credit for as a head coach. The question is whether he's happy in college or longs for lifelong assistant status in the pros.

I threw out JVG too, but see it as pretty unlikely but crazier things have happened. I think Adrian Griffin is the best bet if Orlando chooses Vogel. I'd think Ryan Saunders has a job here too. I think Cassell is on his radar. I am intrigued by Stockton since he has been a coaching assistant at his daughter's college at Montana St. (she graduated this year) and by the relationship he has with Layden who was his assistant coach in Utah. McHale would be great to work with our bigs, but like JVG I think its pretty unlikely he wants the job but can't hurt to ask.
