Coaching News around the NBA

Post by TeamRicky [enjin:6648771] »

The Nets have named Kenny Atkinson as their head coach. I really liked Atkinson a lot and had him among the best coaches available under 50. I am a little surprised he decided to take the Nets job since I figured he could get a better head coaching job somewhere else. Here's the news story: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/15223072/brooklyn-nets-name-atlanta-hawks-assistant-kenny-atkinson-head-coach

I think a lot of it has to do with a Marks being the guy in charge there. It seems he is pretty well respected. Atkinson could have waited for a better job but it was also possible he would have waited and come up empty handed. The Nets are in bad shape when it comes to the draft but they are not in such a bad shape when it comes to the cap like they were before this season. They have some solid young/ish players and will also have the opportunity for guys to play which could get them some decent FA or find a diamond in the rough. Not having a 1st round pick for a few years it pretty tough but you never know what magic can be worked and it's not like it's that difficult to get into the playoffs and that may be all they need to do to bring in a quality FA at some point.

We'll pick last of course and get the leftovers. JVG back to NY, Thibs to LA, Ollie to Washington. Wolves get....Sam Mitchell. :thumb:

There's some of that Minnesota realism. Nice.

Yep, so like LST was saying, The Korn Ferry most likely won't give Glen a list in 2 weeks, it will take a month or longer as I'm assuming they're getting paid quite a bit. Or does Glen want to move fast on this and not dick around whilst top candidates go elsewhere not knowing if they're the one for the Wolves job.

It's still the best job, and all we have to do is express interest in the guys we want and I think they will wait for the outcome.

The decision to let Sam go wasn't likely to have been recent given the team played it's best as the season came to a conclusion. I think it's likely that Katy Perry, err, Korn Ferry have been working on this for some time now. I would further suggest that the fact JVG and Thibs have been working on a list of potential front office staff means they've been aware there would be an opening going back further than the last game of the season, and likely through some contact with KF.

This search could well drag on this summer, but I don't think that'll be because Glenn is sitting around waiting on KF to put their list together.

Jon K said we're going to be very aggressive on the coaching front. I also want to say that he said something about it not dragging out, but don't hold me to that.

Luke Walton is meeting with the Knicks to discuss the head coaching job. I just can't see them keeping Rambis if Walton wants to coach there.

If I'm Walton I do not want to coach there. LA is the place he should want to go.

If I were the Knicks I would be shopping Carmelo and try to rebuild around Porzingis. They will go all in on some free agents and it will fail like most get rich schemes do.
