He is a situational defender at the next level. His offense makes Rubio look like James Harden. He may actually average zero points in the NBA next year.....incredibly bad! Much of his supposed skillset of "being able to guard all positions" is not something he will get to display nearly as often in NBA. Outside situational occasions, NBA teams just don't deploy a center against a guard and such for a variety of reasons. Many on this board have him top 6-7. Because I don't think you can start him, he is not top 20 for me.
Agree. I've never been high on WCS. Kaminsky dominated him last night. There's no way you draft WCS ahead of Kaminsky.
I agree. I wouldn't take WCS with a top 10 pick much less a top 5. If he reminds me of any past or present NBA player it's Felton Spencer. He was pathetic on the defensive end against Wisconsin last night. I've watched Kentucky a lot this year and he's never impressed me as a future NBA starter or even a regular rotation player.
Ok Ok ok.... So we have discussed what is available this draft... But my question is, what do the Wolves actually have in assets this next two years? Any Euro stash? Which picks are still ours? What kind of money will we have this off season and next? We are almost guaranteed a top 5 pick at this point, what other picks do we have this year?

He showed off a semblance of a post game even though it was against PF strength level guys and carried Kentucky offensively in a couple games which he hadn't really shown most of the year. His missing piece was his offense most of the year and I think he showed enough where teams will perceive him as the top guy.
I will say though that the tourney also sealed it for me that he is a 5 at the next level and should only play 4 when absolutely no other options are available. The last two games showed that his defensive impact is non-existent when you pull him away from the basket. Getting 1 BPG against ND and Wisconsin who have smaller frontlines overall and largely getting taken to school on drives to the bucket didn't look great overall. If you take away his defensive impact, his offense isn't good enough to make up for it aka when Ibaka plays stretch 4's.
Don't sleep on what Towns can offer offensively. Calipari even held Anthony Davis back on offense. Towns will be fine there.
Eh, I think it's hard to get a beat on Towns defensively because we just haven't seen him guard big posts in one-on-one situations. And he certainly doesn't have the mobility of WCS to go out and check perimeter guys on switches, so I agree he's a 5 at the next level.
Offensively, the thing that bodes well in my opinion is his FT%. 81% for a freshman big man is really, really rare. That tells me that he has a jump shot that wasn't featured in Calipari's offense. His post moves are solid and his passing is good too. I think he will be very good offensively at the next level.
One guy to really think about trading down for if Okafor and Towns are gone when we draft is Jakob Poeltl of Utah.
He is only 19 years old and had a really nice freshman year for Utah. His frame looks like it could add more weight, so I think physically he could get bigger and stronger. The thing I like about him is he definitely shows capability as a 2-way player.

Q, just like Towns' 81% FT rate is encouraging, Poeltl's 43% is a big red flag. Tells me he doesn't have much shooting touch.
True, but his 68% FG% tells me he stays in his lane and can score efficiently. His FT% should gradually get better, but yeah, I wouldn't draft him because we think he can play pick and pop all night with Rubio. That's not his game.
I think he's the type of guy that needs another year or two for his body to mature and skills to get refined. But I like his combination of size and skill at such a young age.
WCS allowed only 20% shooting in perimeter isolation situations this season....

If you don't think WCS is a LOCK to be a top 10 pick, then I would like to cross you off the list of possible GM candidates when one day I win the lottery and become an NBA owner. Teams DROOL over rim protectors and he is the best one available in the draft hands down.
