I’m not surprised. It would be nice to have one reliable veteran true PG behind Conley. As much as I love Dilly, I don’t see him as a rookie being a reliable backup to Conley if we’re serious about competing for a championship.

McLaughlin would be an obvious upgrade in terms of depth over what we have now but I'm not sure whether I would want to plan on him playing any type of legit minutes in the playoffs competing for a championship and I probably value him more highly than anyone here.

It will be interesting to see what his role ends up being there. Kings drafted Carter and Monk is gonna get a healthy amount of minutes.

Yeah, I think he's destined to be buried on the bench again. Good for JMac though to get another $2.4 million...may be his last contract.

Many of us wanted him to get more minutes here, but it was never going to happen. I think some of it was because he was never "one of the boys" here. I watched him at Summer League last year, and while he sat in the same row as his teammates, he had zero interaction...only chatted with his wife. Even guys like Nix and Rivers interacted with the Wolves there more than JMac did. Maybe he'll fit in better in Sac-Town.

Connelly and the Wolves went into this off-season and draft cycle with 2 picks #27 and #37. So far this is what the tally is for picks moved and acquired this offseason

So in the end Connelly got a really valuable player at #8 while also adding more future picks than when he started. Obviously the picks the Wolves own now are less valuable than what we gave up but we got into the top 10 this year and it's good to have the quantity of 2nds especially since we had so few picks overall going forward.

I don't think we really got any worse from last year. Which is great. Now it is all just about internal improvement from those who were already in our rotation, and hoping 1 or 2 of our other young guy's proves to be an NBA contributor early and often.

Denver got worse, but their core is still tough. LAC got worse. The rest of the teams are mostly the same or will be better. Memphis should be healthier. Dallas adds Klay. Kings add Derozan. Spurs CP3 and Barnes to Wemby. GSW with shrewd moves. The West will be a bloodbath again.

Future - It’s hard to say whether our off-season moves will be a net plus, minus or neutral.

More offensive firepower, slight step back defensively, internal progress from Ant, Jaden, Naz. The Wolves will be better. But the West is better too.

I think it's worth comparing what the Wolves have now compared to what they started last season with instead of how they ended. I'll post some players that were here last year and who is possibly replacing them on the roster.

So what can we take from this breakdown? In terms of NBA contract players, other than one tradeoff we are relying on less experienced players than last year. Milton was a promising signing but was a disaster. Brown Jr was a solid player overall. Garza is a nice player but we could still use another actual PG type. Dozier is a much more proven player than Moore plus we could end up with a more proven player than him in that spot. He isn't McLaughlin but he is also way more prepared to help at guard even PG than Moore was.

As for 2 way players we don't know yet. Clark being healthy and a single is obviously better than basically a redshirt year where he couldn't play at all. Ultimately the floor of this teams depth is a concern but the upside is also higher than last year and that's with a spot or 2 yet to be filled. In addition we have young players on the roster from last year it's reasonable to hope a couple of them improve some over last season. There is also possibility of regression like point shooting but some guys could drop off some and still be pretty good.

What we have or will need from guys at the PG position is the key to whether or not the Wolves are better than last year either at the beginning of the season or the end. A lot of this is on how good Dillingham is. If the Wolves have to go out and find another vet like they did this year my guess is they will be able to do so. Yes it will be more difficult than last season but my guess there will be various options and all this is assuming we don't add someone else to the roster that gives us a better feeling about the depth there.
