Lakers had 43-30 rebounding advantage in their prior win two nights ago. It's interesting that rebounding doesn't get highlighted very often. The focus of fan discussions and post-game analyses tends to be on scoring, and shooting efficiency as well as overall offense and defense. But I can't think of a stat more important to winning than rebounding.

One of the best basketball minds in NBA history, Red Auerbach, had a refrain he would preach repeatedly to his players before and during games. He'd say over and over: get me the ball!" He was referring to rebounding and secondarily to forcing turnovers.. He explained it simply, although it needed no explanation: "you can't score if you don't have the ball and the more you have the ball the more opportunities you have to score."

Out rebounding your opposing team will typically give you the edge in net scoring opportunities. It's a big deal and it's one positive aspect of the Wolves building around KAT. But obviously KAT's rebounding isn't enough. He needs help on the boards and both he and the entire team need to improve defensively.

Paul Reed. Maybe he's the rebounder we need.

I won't say rebounding is unimportant, but I think effective FG percentage differential is a lot bigger factor in winning than rebounding differential. Stopping makes on one end and making shots on the other is huge.

Having said that, it is definitely a problem if you are getting pounded on the glass as bad as Houston has been. It has gone from a potential soft spot given their smaller lineup to a 5-alarm fire these last couple of games.

Don't forget Jared Vanderbilt, who is already on the roster. That guy has all the makings of a potential dirty work PF that can get after it on the glass, run the floor (and even handle the ball some), and guard multiple positions.

Then if the Wolves don't re-sign Juancho he should just start and go from there (and have Johnson back him up). They don't have anything left to lose.

I saw a story a couple days ago about the Lakers winning by "going small."

Apparently, going small was putting the team's 6'10 All Star with 7'6" wingspan at... center. And they also can pair him with the team's 6'9" 265 pound superstar.

Small ball???

Heh, yeah, LeBron is basically a taller, bigger, faster version of PJ Tucker, Houston's Center.

Juancho is such an awful fit in the starting lineup. KAT-DLO-Beasley-Jauncho-(insert random wing) is the softest outfit this side of the Charmin factory. I mean, Okogie can't guard everyone!

Vanderbilt is still a bit raw, but if you really simplify his role and have skilled guys around him, I don't see the harm in starting him. He's been paying his dues for a couple seasons now and put in some good work in the G-League last year. James Johnson can sub for him early if needed.
