To me trading for Ben Simmons right now is somewhat similar to trading for a 25 year old Rudy Gobert signed to 4 remaining years on a max contract. What would people be willing to trade for that type of player?

Ben Simmons is a great, not good player. I want him on our team in the worst way. Rosas is not going to include Ant in any deal, and I would hate to see him go. But my position is that if I'm backed into a corner and could only have one of the two, I would choose Simmons. Thankfully we won't have to face the reality of the decision.

Monster, I think that's a very good example. While Gobert is an elite rebounder and Simmons is an elite facilitator, in other ways they are very similar. Dane Moore said his survey of NBA coaches at Summer League had Simmons and Gobert 1 and 2 defensively in the league...they are both guys who truly make a difference on the defensive side of the ball. But while they are both very efficient scorers and each averaged 14.3 PPG last season, both are very limited in how they score...Simmons takes 91% of his shots within 10 feet, and Gobert takes 97%! Both are major contributors to 50+ win teams. Both are elite defenders, but while efficient on offense, are limited by their refusal to shoot outside 10 feet and poor free throwing.

I would think that a 25-year-old Gobert would bring back about the same return as Simmons. And yes, hypothetically I would offer Ant for a younger Gobert. Would others?

Yeah, I'm in agreement with all of this. It would be painful for me to give up such an entertaining and potentially effective player like Ant, but even though nobody has bit on my question above about which rotation would win more games, I'm not surprised that nobody has tried to build a rational case that our current rotation would win more game than the rotation with Simmons.

But you're right that we won't have to face that decision, because I don't think either side makes that swap right now...Rosas doesn't offer it because he overvalues his draft pick, and Morey doesn't take it because Ant isn't the All-Star he's on record of seeking.

Well, I bit. You must have missed it.

Whoops, sorry Q...didn't mean to call you a "nobody"! Typical FNG reading comprehension deficiency.

I agree that a Dlo/Beasley backcourt would still be an issue, but I love the trio of mobile near 7 footers up front. And I also like a shutdown defensive five to close out games of KAT/Simmons/Jaden/Okogie/Beverley...I'd love to have those three protecting a 4th quarter lead. But yeah, a backcourt of Dlo and Beasley is worrisome, but frankly Dlo/Edwards isn't going to strike fear into many offenses either!

Guys, nobody here is arguing that Anthony Edwards is better on the court than Ben Simmons right now. I'm not even sure why we're comparing the two Wolves lineups with and without those two players. I don't know any other way to say it, but Edwards is 20-years old right now. Simmons is 25. In five years or less, could Edwards be a better player than Simmons? Yes, he legitimately could.

Now let's come back to reality. Currently, Philadelphia can't even get Sacramento to offer up Tyrese Haliburton. Meanwhile, we're here talking about giving up Edwards. This entire discussion could and should have been avoided if we all had an understanding of what Simmons' market value is in this situation.

I heard yesterday that Houston could put a package together around John Wall.

Philadelphia is not going to take on John Wall's contract.

It only has 2 years remaining. It depends on what comes along with it.
