Simmons Prediction Thread

Post by Lipoli390 »

We have two other threads in which we've been debating and speculating on Simmons trade value along with whether the Wolves should pursue him and, if so, who/what they should be willing to get up to get him. So I thought I'd start this thread devoted solely to what we all think WILL happen and not what we think should happen or what we want to happen -- a thread to register our predictions on the following questions:

1. Will the Sixers trade Simmons by the start of the regular season?

2. If traded, what team will get him and who/what will they give up to get him?

1 - Yes

2 - I honestly think the Wolves will get him. But I have no idea what will be going back to Philly, or whether it will take a third team.

My predictions:

1. Yes, the Sixers will trade Simmons by the start of the regular season

2. The Wolves will get him in exchange for the following: (a) Beasley; (b) McDaniels; (c) Prince; (d) rights to Bolmaro; (d) Wolves 2022 1st-round pick (unprotected); (e) Wolves 2024 1st-round pick (unprotected); (f) Wolves 2026 1st-round pick (lottery protected until 2028 then converting to two 2nd-round picks in 2028 if not conveyed).

Lip, I was hoping you could be a little more specific. :)

I'll note that the deal I'm predicting is one I would NOT make if I were in Gersson's position. But since this is a prediction thread, I'm just playing it straight and calling it as I see it happening sometime in the next 30 days or so.

Agreed, that would be too much to give up.

I believe Simmons will be traded before the season starts.

I believe the trade will include at least 3 teams.

I'm not convinced Simmons will be traded before the end of the year, unless a team is willing to give up something way more than what is rumored so far. Morey has heard from a lot of teams, so he knows Simmons is valued way more outside of Philly, so I think he's too smart to bite on some of the deals that have been thrown out there. He wants, and thinks he deserves, a Lilliard, Beal, or in our case, Anthony Edwards. There's always a threat that Simmons could pull a Butler and force Morey to take a deal he doesn't want, but Simmons is not Butler...I don't think he wants to play anymore in Philly, but I think he will if Morey doesn't trade him.

If Morey folds and takes a deal less than what he wants, I see Golden State and Minnesota as the most likely options. Golden State doesn't need two "similar" players like Green and Simmons and has a lot of young talent, so they may be willing to give up Green, Poole, Moody and picks. Morey might see Green as an elite distributor like Simmons who is also not afraid to shoot or take a free throw, and would appreciate the infusion of young talent in addition. I don't like the deal for Philly, but think Wiseman, Simmons, Wig, Thompson and Curry would be a scary starting lineup.

The Wolves are my second choice, not because they have the best options, but because Rosas seems to be the GM who most wants Simmons. I think it would take Edwards as a minimum, with Prince and Layman thrown in to make the salaries work.

It would be painful to give up a possible future star in Ant, but I think it easily gets us solidly into the playoffs.

KAT/Reid
Simmons/Vando
Jaden/Josh
Beasley/Nowell
Dlo/Beverley

We would also have two open roster spaces to add depth where we need it. Of course, I would rather give up Dlo and Beasley, but I just don't see Morey biting on that deal.

FNG, what will other teams be offering that forces Gersson Rosas to include Anthony Edwards? I would love to hear your thoughts on that because it appears to me that your view of Ben Simmons' market is very flawed, to say the least.
