Re: Jarrett Culver
Culver will make sense when we get the primary ball handling scoring guard next to him to compliment him. Until then he's just not gonna be a great fit here.
Re: Jarrett Culver
Thought I'd bring this back up for discussion.

There is a thread right below this one called "Culver" which has been pretty active of late. Anything in particular you'd like to add?
I looked back on this one and saw I made the Evan Turner comparison. Now I'm worried about that being his best-case scenario!

Culver is the Wolves best player (best plus/minus last 7 games).
Jump on the Culver bus boys! 8-)

By that logic Max Strus is the 8th best player in the league.

Would you trade Culver for Zion right now? I don't think I would with that injury concern.

Re: Jarrett Culver
Great to see Culver playing better....need to see it sustained though. He definitely has some defensive chops and I think along with RoCo and Dieng has been a key cog on that side of the ball. Offensively, he still has a lot of work to do. He made some highlight-reel plays last night on offense, but also some real bad ones too.

I'm not sure what those bad ones were. As you know I wasn't a fan of the pick. But I've come around to seeing the why he was so highly valued by many. He's much quicker and more athletic than I though he was He's also a better ball-handler than I expected - actually a very good one. He has a great feel for the game and high basketball IQ. And he's obviously an excellent defender, both on and off the ball. The only concern I have with him, and it's a big one, is his shooting - specifically his 3-point and free-throw shooting. But he's shown some positive signs as a shooter in the last few games.
In an earlier post you expressed concern that Evan Turner might be Culver's ceiling. I don't see that. I see a lot of Brandon Roy in Culver. Note that Roy was never much of a 3-point shooter. If Culver continues to develop as he has been recently, fixes his free-throw shooting and develops a reasonably reliable 3-point shot, he can be an all-star caliber Brandon Roy like player.

Well, I think there was one play he dribbled it off his foot and then went diving for the ball as it rolled out of bounds. Also, his 3-point shot is impossible to trust at this point. I'm glad he's made a few of late, but he's still miles from respectable on this front. It almost looks like he's steering his shots, which is not a sustainable strategy for long-term consistency beyond the arc.
The Brandon Roy comparison is ridiculously optimistic. I kind of get what you mean in terms of the sneaky explosiveness, but Roy had a much quicker change of pace/first step. Culver's explosiveness shows more on straight line drives. Also, Roy played back in the days when the 3-point shot was not used as prolifically and he was good enough to command respect from that distance.
I'm not sure Evan Turner is his absolute ceiling, but I think it's a more realistic comparison of where he ends up.

I would trade 50 Culver for one game of Zion.
Edit: make that one million Culvers. Wow.
