The only player that has value is kristaps porzingis. They made the right pick with porzingis but he is a year or two away from contributing. Melo wont have many suitors because of his contract, age and playing style. Calderon dont have much value.
They thought they could rebuild thru cap space. Well, they are wrong. Melo is not someone that is easy to play with and no one really cares about the traiangle anymore. The triangle offense is not meant for a rebuilding team with question marks. We saw that first hand with the incompetent rambis here.
I feel bad for the knicks fans as they are some of the best fans but I always thought the phil hiring and the whole triangle offense he insist on running is never going to work out. Now, their hopes lie on porzingis developing quicker than expected.
It gets worse. They don't have their 1st rounder next year and they don't have their own 2nd rounder till 2022. Yikes.
I didnt notice that they dont have their pick next year. Damn, the knicks are in bad shape. To think that they actually have more assets before phil jackson took over. He basically got rid of tyson chandler's expiring contract for calderon. Trade away shumpert, hardaway and jr smith. Have no one signed with value that could be used in trades and no picks to dangle. Yeah, they have melo, the triangle with fisher and 'gulp' rambis as the coach and assistant and the phil jackson brand. Oh, they have cap space that all teams would have next off season. Why did the knicks hire jackson for 12m a year to run the team in los angeles?

When you put it that way...
Yeah it doesn't look too good. I didn't understand how they didn't get something (future 2nd rounder isn't much) out of the Shump (he had been hurt) and Smith deal. Those guys are flawed but have value as wing players in this league and Phil dumped them for nothing. I get it if he wanted to move them but you gotta get something more for those guys right?

JR had negative trade value and since they didn't have any picks to give they had to give up Shump. He should have just done what SVG did with Smith and use the stretch provision to dump him and keep Shump. As bad as that trade was, Phil did get Grant for Hardaway which was a steal. That makes me think he has a decent idea of what he's doing. Grant/Shump/Melo/Porzingas/Rolo or Koufas looks a lot better then what they have right now. His hands were tied with Chandler. Everyone in the league knew he had to dump Chandler. He and Melo hated each others guts. He got fleeced on that one and that's just as much on Melo as Phil because the drama killed Phil's leverage.
