As a stand alone transgression it won't define his career. But it's just another drip that only seems to happen to people with dubious character like Muhammad and Johnny Football. I hope he's embarrassed, he should be.

I agree Cool. But at least their wasn't a report of suspected weed use as there was with Chalmers, Arthur and Beasley. Those are the other three who have been caught and disciplined for violating RTP rules.

thedoper wrote:The real question is how do you get caught for this. Someone told on him. Unless this chick was a plant by the NBA to test the players on what they should expect in the future. If that was the case then he is a dumbass for falling for it. But this rule was made to be broken.

Come on Doper, it's only 4 days. These guys should be able to go three nights without indulging. Consider the huge number of rookies who have gone through this camp over the years; yet Shabazz joins a select group of only two others caught doing this. Whether it's a pathetic lack of self-discipline or simply an act of abject stupidity, it's an extremely poor reflection on Shabazz.

Maybe it was Dieng who ratted him out. I wouldn't be surprise if Dieng already hates him. Apparently none of his teammates at UCLA liked him.

You are totally right that these guys should be able to go 4 days. But the NBA should allow grown men to have women in their rooms if they want to. The poor reflection is on both sides. This is not the beasley situation where a law was being broken. The hyper-puritan image the NBA is trying to put out these days is lame, and completely condescending to expect grown men to fit into a 1950s ideal of good conduct.

Doper --I don't think this rule is I tended to create some puritanical image. I think it is more likely intended to help keep the players focused on the program and foster bonding among the rookies. Maybe it's partly intended as a limited test of the players' self control. In any event, the rule was in effect and isn't difficult to comply with.

Its a little dissappointing but he broke a rule not the law and we haven't heard details yet. I am not marginalizing it but like Lip said at least weed wasn't involved. Funny thing about that trio was Beasley was the guy busted last and of the 3 Beasley is the last guy you would want on your team the other guys are better basketball players.

Look Shabazz is a #14 pick in a weak draft that's near crapshoot area. Let's lower our expectations and enjoy the ride. Personally Anything we get out of Shabazz is almost a bonus cause the guy I wanted in the draft was Diang and we got him.

Why would someone be tested for self control for something that is legal and good for you? This is a completely puritanical ideal that is moronic. Certainly it isn't the type of rule that you should send someone home like a child for breaking. This whole thing is dumb and defeats the purpose of transitioning young men into grown men.

Yes definitely a joke. I just grow tired with the whole mentality that these athletes should somehow be perfect citizens. In the 1st NBA lockout one of the major sticking points was punishment for marijuana, most of the league was high, or certainly didn't believe their employer should dictate their behavior in their private lives. I am with the Barkley camp that these guys aren't role models and that expectation is unfair. Especially for someone who's lifelong aspiration has been to throw a ball in a hoop.

Doper I don't totally disagree with you but lets be honest these guys should really pay attention to this stuff so they don't end up being Chris Gatling 3 years 10 years or 15 years etc from now.
