ESPN Sources: Denver Nuggets president Tim Connelly is traveling to meet with Minnesota owner Glen Taylor this weekend in what's the next step in the Timberwolves' pursuit to hire Connelly and make him one of league's highest compensated executives.

Tim Connelly also moved his way up through the ranks as a scout. These guys all hustle and understand the talent pool and how to set up these aspects of an organization. I think this would be a great get for the Wolves.

Agreed. I'm really looking forward to Tim Connelly and Chris Finch leading this franchise for the next 5-10 years. I would argue that pairing would be the best and most competent management duo this franchise has ever had.

Dane Moore had a local Denver media guy Adam Mares on his podcast and it was interesting.

One point Adam explained was how Denver ownership is cheap. He said until just a few years ago the Nuggets didn't even have a parking garage. He was saying he remembers Jameer Nelson getting on his heavy coat gloves etc and going out to his car and scraping and brushing all the snow off it after practice to go home. He said the Nuggets practice facility is worse than the one he had in high school. He said the Nuggets go somewhere else for training camp like San Diego partly because there wouldn't be enough room for everyone to practice in the Nuggets facilities. Dane and Adam started joking about how both of these franchises in one way are another haven't been well run. Adam also said that the front office really didn't have many people because there wasn't money for it.

Adam really likes Connelly but he also seemed to be fair about the negatives about him too.

The podcast is 38 minutes long and you can skip commercials. I mean I can do more of a wrap up but I think it's a worthwhile listen.

I haven't listened to the podcast, but a couple negatives have been mentioned so far in this thread - the draft night deal involving Donovan Mitchell and giving MPJ a max contract prematurely. Perhaps there are other things as well. But otherwise, hard to find too much negative given the overall success of the franchise under his leadership. Jokic was a great pick, but maybe he was lucky. Consider where the franchise would be if he hadn't selected Jokic in the second round. just playing devil's advocate. I think he'd be a great hire for the Wolves.

I just listened. Might not be the best negotiator, might tend to overpay players. Probably needs some guys in his corner to help with trades and salary mechanics. If Gupta were to stay on as general manager, it would be a grand slam, IMO.

Thanks for the overview. I agree with you, from that description, keeping Gupta as our #2 would be really important. I give Rosas credit for bringing in Gupta. Rosas was similar to Connelly in that he was more of a basketball guy with a scouting background than a business guy. Credit Rosas for understanding his own limitations and bringing in an analytically smart MIT grad, Gupta. But I'm afraid that Gupta would get an offer for a top job somewhere else - possibly Denver. No doubt that Gupta would take such an opportunity if offered. If Gupta were to leave, the Wolves would have to find a solid business/financial negotiator type to replace him. Not Scott Layden!! I would, of course, offer my services. :)
