Re: Wiseman and Edwards
Edwards is not going to be good this year. With the shortened offseason, lack of on-court time as a team to build an offense (not hopeful Ryan was gonna have something that great anyway) and just his bad game habits, it was a low percentage chance he came in and was going to be a serviceable guy this year. It's a good year for him to focus on everything off the ball because he won't be seeing it much on a team stacked with better players. Hopefully long term that's good for his mentality but it only works if he has a good head on his shoulders to be able to go from THE guy and the number 1 pick to A guy who needs to earn his shots by making other impactful plays on the court.

Its one preseason game guys
Here is what makes me cringe. A great poster, someone I have a lot of respect for is hoping that we can make the play-in tournament.
I don't disagree at all. That is certainly what we are hoping for. But how pathetic is it at this point of our maturation? We've traded Wiggins and a slew of other players. We won the #1 draft pick and fired that bullet. We've dealt our #1 pick for next year leaving us with virtually no way to get better unless we blow things up again. I hope you guys are as pissed as I am where we find ourselves heading into 2021. I, and several posters on this board would have us in far better shape had we been given the reigns when Rosas was hired. I'm just looking for hope at this point and not finding much.

Don't forget that we also traded our 2021 2nd round pick as well in the DLO deal. Just makes your point even stronger. I watched the Memphis game again today. One of the things that bothered me was watching Desmond Bane. It was a reminder of how much I liked him coming out of college and how well he would have fit on this team. But instead we have Bolmaro, who is playing in Europe and may never be an NBA-caliber player. The fact that this franchise is in the pretty sorry state it's in now because of a long string of poor player personnel/draft decisions.

Do you like Bane more than you like Nowell?

I think everything you said is fair and I don't love where the Wolves are at. I don't hope they make the play-in i hope they do better but I'm realistic.
So here is where I come down on what options Rosas had when he took over as the president of basketball operations. He could do 1 of 2 things and it comes down to how much you believe in KAT:
1) He could do what he did, in trying to around Kat. Now how do you do that. He traded and semi asset in Saric and pick 11 for pick 6. Taking out who he picked and how those players are preforming I love this trade. He then had to get rid of Wiggins. I know you are a fan of Wiggins and I like him also but I think we agree that wolves were not going anywhere with Kat and Wiggins. So what are your options in trading Wiggins, I think in any trade scenario a 1st was going to be attached to Wiggins. Now based on the player protections could be different if a lesser player is added then what happened. So let's say we did a top 20 protected pick and Wiggins for Batum (2021 expiring), I believe Kat forces his way out because there is no clear path for contention for the Wolves. So he went the get Kat friend and former flawed all star in DLO. I think Rosas is banking on his ability to draft. How Rosas created the try and win with Kat all comes down to Edwards. 1 of 3 things will happen with Edwards. He will be an all star and the wolves are contenders, he is good enough to trade for a 3rd star or he becomes none of that and Kat and Dlo traded in a year and the next rebuild happens (assuming wolves don't get a surprise star out of Jmac, Nowell, Reid, McDaniels, Culver or Balmero)
2) Other option Rosas had was blow it up right away. Trade Kat on arrival. Get assets and start another rebuild. What I would been ok with.
Rosas was in a tough spot. I don't blame him for believe in Kat. Wiggins lack of development more then anything fucked this franchise in this Era of Wolves basketball.
At the end of the day Rosas will need to draft well to keep his job and right now all eyes are on him because there are a lot of questions can he start well.

Re: Wiseman and Edwards
Kek, I don't think it all hinges on Edwards. Remember, even if he does become good, it may take three or four years. He is 19 and not in the same window as KAT and DLO.
I believe there is an element of luck and great front offices basically unearth talent with the best odds of reaching their full potential. We've got a number of irons in the fire that could pop and be significant contributors, not just Edwards.

No. But I like him better than Bolmaro. I get that we have a glut of SGs on this team. That's another problem. The more I watch DLO, the more I see him as a SG, which makes him part of the glut. I would have done a number of things differently in the draft this year. But alas, it is what it is.

Fuck the timeline/window.
By Rosas' moves... trading for DLO on a max deal and giving up next year's #1... he's shorting just how much the current group can improve.
This is basically the team. At least for this season. And probably next season. Yet, we're asked to be patient because we're just not good enough.
But maybe... just maybe... the next promise of hope guy (edwards) will actually earn his max contract. We just have to sit through a couple/few more 50-loss seasons to find out.
If Rosas doesn't think this team can compete as structured... either draft/trade for guy(s) who can help now... or don't build around Russell and Towns.
Doing both simultaneously does nothing. I know Rosas doesn't give a shit because he's the one making tons of money... and wants to keep making tons of money... but that doesn't mean we have to keep buying this crap each time a new regime shovels it to us.
Think about the Stockholm Syndrome we have as fans. 1/2 the people on this forum think that the biggest failure of the past decade is sacrificing unproven prospects to MAKE THE PLAYOFFS under Thibodeau.

Abe, when you say "we're asked to be patient", who are you referring to that is doing the asking?
My view is he made a solid move bringing in Rubio - truly a "win now" signing, but otherwise failed on the PF front despite trying to get a "win now" guy in Milsap or Tucker. He also failed in the draft not getting a "win now" guy (or guys), but I do think attempts were made.
While in the end Rosas should be held accountable, I do believe he at least tried to get some better pieces here and just wasn't successful at doing so. It's on him for not being successful.
