Nowell went 7-13 from deep and scored 25 points.
McLaughlin went 4-9 from deep, 12 assists, and only one turnover. He led the team with a +32
Lindell Wigginton went 7-12 from deep and scored 25 points off the bench.
Yeah, I've watched some of their games. Jaylen Nowell has displayed a pure shooting stroke -- different from someone that can simply make shots if everything goes right -- with some advanced dribble moves in his bag. I think he's the anti-Okogie. Offensively, he should have a relatively smooth transition if/when he gets the opportunity. Can he defend? Can he rebound his position? That remains to be seen.
Here was a draft analysis of Nowell's defense:
Defensive Analysis
Fairly competitive defender coming out of an all-zone system. Good rebounder for a guard with the quickness and length to hold his own. Has room to improve defending off the ball, but showed some ability to pressure the ball early in his career.
Defended almost exclusively Spot Ups at the top of Washington's zone.
Nowell averaged 5.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore, which suggests he's a good rebounder for his position. He also averaged 1.3 steals. Looking at those stats plus the draft reviews on his defense coming out of college tell us he's a good rebounder and suggests good defensive potential. This team needs to move on from Teague and reduce Graham's minutes. Their minutes should be reduced and allocated in some proportion
Ugh, playing a zone in college is one of the worst possible ways to prepare for defense in the NBA. I'm skeptical that he'd be anything other than an abject liability on defense, at least at this point in his career.
I think the good news is that it does appear we have some young, under-the-radar prospects in the likes of Kelan Martin, Nowell, Reid, and may be even McLaughlin that could eventually be solid, rotation-level NBA players. What's also interesting is that these guys in particular seem to be quite skilled offensively, with massive question marks on defense. Meanwhile, the likes of Culver and Okogie are quite skilled defensively with massive question marks on offense. Can someone PLEASE put the full package together for once!?

Playing in a zone defense is a pretty big knock on guys that are not too prospects. It was a hit against guys like Tyus Battle too (poor shooting and inefficiency were obviously bigger issues) and Andrew White III (who is in the G-league 60-60-90 club so far in this season). I think one thing Nowell has going for him if he can be a guy thats more of a combo guard is he looks pretty big and strong and plenty solid athlete to play there and hold up to some extent if he is switched off on bigger wings.
If only Graham could shoot like 29% from 3 or at least hit them at a decent clip from the corner or something. His shooting is giving plenty of credence for Q's terrible 3 point shooting for anyone that comes to the Wolves. Lol Graham isn't likely a long term piece but he would be a lot more useful if he was just below average as a 3 point shooter this year. Sigh
McLaughlin is small but generally speaking I think he has a chance to defend well enough as a bench player Or enough that he isn't just 1 way player. Napier is small but he isn't a liability either. McLaughlin in particular uses his leaping ability to contest shots.

You know he'll be bricking and airballing 3s as soon as he steps into a timberwolf jersey.
Yeppers. And if for some reason he is making shots, he'll be the worst defender since Jamaal Crawford stepped foot on the court. It's always somethin'....always .

Speaking of Jamal, hes still unsigned.
That's not by accident. Super inefficient volume scorers that are also atrocious defenders don't have a place in this league anymore.
