Iowa Wolves

Post by Q12543 [enjin:6621299] »

They lost their preseason game last night, but the starters were all + in the +/- category so I think it was their bench guys that got crushed in the 4th.

We started Jordan McLaughlin, Jaylen Nowell, Naz Reid, KBD, and Kelan Martin. I know some of us have high hopes that at least a couple of these guys could eventually make an impact at the next level.

Reid had the best all-around game with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks in 23 minutes along with a +3. He was 4-8 from 3. He continues to really impress.

Kelan Martin had 14 points in only 18 minutes, going 6-10 from the floor and 2-5 from 3. He's a guy I really liked in Summer League because he had one of the prettier looking shots. We'll see if he continues to progress.

No one else really stood out.

I thought KBD was doing well 2nd half of last season. Saunders doesn't like him?

I hope Reid can get back to Mpls and get some minutes.

KBD hasn't progressed a lick in my opinion. He wasn't bad last year, but just sort of meh and has stayed that way.

Q I assume you were just looking at the box score but I think it's worth mentioning my guy Jordon Murphy who had 11 points 10 rebounds and hit 1-2 from 3 in just 16 mins of work. I think the Wolves have assembled a potentially good roster down there. I also like that Canyon Barry is still on the roster. He likely isn't good/talented enough to play at the next level but that guy knows how to play. I'm looking forward to watching this group of players even though it's often some pretty ugly basketball.

I guess I just don't see Murphy as a realistic NBA prospect whereas Naz, Kelan, Nowell, etc. could be players eventually.

I don't see Murphy as a realistic NBA prospect either. But those other three are intriguing.

The best thing about Canyon Barry is his underhand free-throw shooting. Just like grandpa. :)

Jordan McLaughlin of all people with a massive game in Iowa's win tonight.

34 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals and a +/- of +18. Having just come down from a short stint in the NBA, the competition must have looked just a tad bit easier, lol.

KBD with a nice outing as well, with 23 points on only 12 shots.

Naz had 14 points (on 14 shots though), 12 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks, and 6 TOs. A lot of good and bad.

Nowell and Kelan didn't do much.

I thought McLaughlin looked terrific when he played up here, so I'm not totally surprised by his G-League performance tonight. He's an NBA PG in my view.

I watched the extended/condensed game of the first game and then the highlights of McLaughlin's big night.

One thing I noticed is KBD on some of his 3's is doing a leg split to land with them quite wide. I'm not sure what advantages that brings to the offensive player but a couple times it wasn't about trying to stay a foul. He has been getting up those 3's and hitting them at 60%. His length is nice but he isn't a guy that's going to overwhelm you physically. If he can hit 3's that would open up his game a lot because he has a nice feel for driving the ball.

It's pretty intriguing to think about all the young players down there that the Wolves have under contract. It's 5 guys that are probably going to play there a lot plus they have some other intriguing guys. Winginton showed some of the Juice that made Lip excited about him. Duval looked kinda interesting. Hopefully I get to watch a full game soon.
