Covington is having a down year, but I always thought he was a poor man's Kris Middleton and Hollis Thompson is a consistent 39% 3pt shooter. Both I think would complement our roster better than Bazz. Philly could use another scorer with Embiid and they have the money to re-sign Bazz if they want to.
This trade certainly will not be popular in Philly.
Why? They have no scoring outside of Embiid and that's Bazz's specialty. Embiid is the only guy over 13 PPG on their team. Bazz would fill a huge hole for them.
Either guy would probably work for me but how much are you willing to pay Thompson? He is a RFA next summer. Covington is still on a dirt cheap deal for another year and I wonder if they wouldn't want to deal Bazz for him. Why? Covington is a 3 point shooter and has a solid defensive reputation....and he is dirt cheap for another year. If they really want Bazz all they have to do is outbid whatever other desperate team wants to pay him this summer like the Nets. I'm not suggesting the deal makes no sense but I can see reasons why the Sixers or the Wolves wouldn't do the deal. The last couple games we are seeing why Bazz can bring value to a team. I'd only pay him as a top bench player.

I don't think any of them are gonna get big deals. A lot of teams blew their wad last off-season and the cap jump isn't nearly as dramatic this offseason if I recall correctly. Combine that with the expectation the cap is going to level out or even go down after next year and team's aren't going to be as willing to cap out on guys the likes of Bazz and Thompson because this will be the peak. I imagine them getting deals in the 7-10 range based on current production which I'm fine giving to a guy who fits the roster, but not someone who fits none of the holes we have and bolsters areas we are fine in like scoring. None of them have shown enough to date where I can see them getting high enough offers needed to prevent the match from their current teams. Is Bazz really a guy you think someone will look at and say he's worth the 12+ million to stop us from matching? I don't see his skill set as that appealing to teams. The only way he leaves cheap is if we sign someone else to a big deal.

They have Okafor who's miles better scorer than Bazz. Simmons will score some for them. Cov is their best perimeter defender, Hollis is their best shooter. They won't trade them for Bazz who they can sign in FA if they really want him.

Sign me up. I don't know if the Lakers would go for it, mainly because they'd be admitting they made a mistake this off-season, but I would make that trade and would start Deng at power forward for this team moving forward.

This will sound odd since I was the biggest Deng proponent in the offseason, but I don't think I do that deal (even if the Lakers would). Part of me still wants to do it, because I love the idea of a defensive SF allowing Wig to move to SG and Zach to 6th man (which JZ said he thought was Thibs' preferred role for Zach in this morning's Strib). But two things make me say no. The first is salary cap concerns. I can tell you that Wolves ownership thinks there is a way to keep their big 3 (although I'm not privy to the details), but I assume it means not re-signing Ricky when his contract runs out and, more importantly, not signing any high-priced free agents whose contracts will extend beyond 2018-9. I know that Thibs wanted Deng, but I don't know if he went to the Lakers instead because he didn't want to play for Thibs or if he wanted that 4th year...I suspect it's the latter, and the Wolves weren't (and aren't) willing to have Deng's contract into 2020. The second reason is Deng himself...his offense has really fallen off this year, and he doesn't look like a player worthy of the contract he signed. I say no.
I don't think any of these trades are close to realistic. If I were to make any trade it would be to free up cap space to sign a legit Free agent next year. I'd look to move Rubio at the deadline and throw in Bazz if necessary to Cleveland (or a similar team needing a back up PG) for their first next year and an expiring contract. If we could get Rubio and Pek off the books next year we're going to have a little extra dough for a nice piece.

I get this viewpoint too. I just don't think our FO and ownership are wanting to go that route. I'd support the addition of Serge Ibaka, though. Even if he is going to get something close to $20M annually.
