Thibs says he has only installed the base of his defense
Re: Thibs says he has only installed the base of his defense
Also there was a little talk about Thibs offensive abilities before and after his hiring by the Wolves. Compared to last year they seemed to be about where they were before which seems pretty good as they were doing well on that side of the ball. That seems like good news. There have been plenty of articles about how Thibs is actually a pretty good offensive coach. Could it be we have a pretty good all around coach not just some grumpy defensive guy?

David Aldridge has an interesting article about the Wolves particularly defensively.

There are plenty of quotes from various people including Wolves players but I found this one interesting from Derrick Rose.
"It takes time with Thibs, especially with the effort that he wants on the floor, all the time," said Rose, a graduate of the Thibodeau School of Never Satisfied. "He's a hard-nosed coach. But with that group, I heard he's taking his time with them, giving them space to make mistakes. It's going to take time. They're a young group, trying to figure out what their identity is going to be. Just because the coach is a defensive specialist doesn't mean that they're going to get it right away."

This is related to a point I made on another post. Thibs is finding a balance between coach and GM. He could have tried to bring in guys right away and cobbled together a more legit roster. Instead he stripped us back down and seems to be trying to teach our youthful core from scratch. The only additions he is playing are Cole and Dunn. It has been hard to watch because we had thought we were making gains at the end of last year. I'm confident we're doing it right and these players will be better off in the long run.
