Ok, you got me going. Could have drafted Cousins over Wes Johnson. If not Curry over Ricky, how about Curry over Flynn. I'm falling into a deep depression.

Could have drafted Noah instead of Brewer and had him play next to KG. That would have been a crazy good tandem.

I think Curry over Flynn is a real tragedy here...what a disaster!
But if anyone actually claims (without hindsight) that they preferred Curry to the already iconic Ricky Rubio in that draft, I'm going to insist on a polygraph test...and you'll fail! The message boards back then were unanimous in not being able to believe our luck that this magician had fallen to us at 5.

And yes they probably had to do it, still doesn't mean that was the route that our Wolves should go. Lavine should be in the conversation for most improved player in the association. He just *looks* like a soon to be star. I really have enjoyed watching him grow over the past couple years, especially the last 45 or so games.
It wasn't just the Harden trade. It's that they didn't get back a ton in return... although Adams has been a good get.
And then the injuries... poorly timed. OKC had some rough injury luck when it mattered. Goes to show that championships are not easy. Go for them whenever you get a chance. Always.
To be fair, the Wolves are FAR FAR away from such talk. Or even playoff talk?

Agreed. I don't think the Rubio pick was the problem there. It was Kahn's decision to (1) draft Flynn. (2) Pick Rambis and an offensive system that negated the ONE thing Flynn brought to the table which was the PnR. (3) tried to convince people Flynn and Rubio could play together. That was a sign he was not equipped to handle the gig.
At the time, I didn't like Flynn. I thought his "legendary" 4 OT game was entirely too prominent in his ascension up the draft charts/public perception. Was it? Or just my imagination?

Oh, no...I completely agree. I was living in Shanghai then and trying to catch some of the tournament at breakfast in saloons with satellite before work, and I remember saying during that game "Wow, what a college performer and what an individual performance, but I don't see it translating to the NBA". I had the same feeling about Troy Burke during his tournament run. Flynn actually exceeded my expectations and was somewhat serviceable before getting hurt.
Re: Which One Would You Trade
I was kinda be sarcastic saying we screwed up with Rubio over Curry. I will full admitt I was very excited about drafting Rubio, and was a huge fan his rookie year, he was fantastic that year, then the injury. I don't know how that effected his NBA trajectory or not, we could speculate all day on that I suppose.
I had a huge problem with the Flynn pick at the time of the draft. The reason was it was obvious Ricky needed the ball in his hands like a traditional PG, and Kahn touted Flynn as this dynamic player able to play off the ball. That made zero sense to me, it was obvious Curry was that type of player.
I don't know if anyone remembers Dave Wahl, a Rambis assistant at the time of the draft. He later came out after being let go that Kahn was saying a Flynn/Rubio backcourt had the chance to be Clyde Frazier and Pearl Monroe. Pretty funny stuff in hindsight.
