Ennis and Napier didn't really fill needs adequately last season... even as backups. I wouldn't be against it... but only if the Wolves really dig a guy and think they can draft him for great value at that spot. Drafting a PG late in the 1st just for need is dicey at best.
There aren't many point guards that I like that are expected to be available in the 2nd round. I like Tyus Jones for his great basketball IQ, competitiveness, ball handling, good free throw shooting and his local connection. I would consider trading up to get him if it involved nothing more than some combo of our seconds and Payne/AB/Bud. I was intrigued by the Brazilian point guard Lucas with 7 foot plus wingspan who unfortunately pulled out of the draft. I think there are some talented guys expected to be available in early 2nd who can make our roster and perhaps develop into a quality rotation player, but none of them are point guards. That's why I think its worthwhile to consider what else we could acquire outside of the draft unless you think Lavine and Lorenzo can provide the depth we need.
I hear what you guys are saying. But let's be honest. The draft is pretty much a crap shoot all the way through. Maybe the best strategy is to just use all our picks and see what happens. The Wolves have actually picked some decent PG in the late 1st round/early second in the past. They just didn't keep them. Example: Ty Lawson (#18).and Mario Chalmers at #34. I not sure anyone would have predicted those guys would have turned out as well as they did a the time they were drafted. You just never know.
I should probably add Beno Udrih to the list. Although, he won't be a free agent until 2016, Memphis has just added Ridnour to Conley and Calathes. Obviously, he could be had very cheaply if they resign restricted free agent Calathes. I thought he did a very good job stepping in for Conley when he was injured.

If I thought we were a playoff team I would go after a veteran for sure. Since I see us as a few years away I would rather draft one and try and develop him.

While I don't disagree with the premise... again... I wouldn't draft one just to draft one. You can't make somebody a good or even serviceable PG.
If the guy is there... cool. If not... don't force it.
I want us to draft a pg with the highest pick possible and keep giving Lavine some Minutes as the back up 1. Yes Lavine is not a PG but he can only benefit from continued time at that position. I am not worried on us losing out on a playoff spot this year, giving Lavine more time to feel out the position makes sense to me as long as he is splitting those back up minutes with someone who is a natural 1.

I can agree with that. Luckily the draft comes first. If Grant or Jones are there and we have a trade partner I would pull the trigger on that. If not then go and get a veteran.
