I'll still throw Chauncey Billups name into the mix. In order of what I'd want if all things are possible, Thibs would be first and Hoiberg would be second, but I'll roll the dice with Billups over giving Mitchell/Lowe a look.

I personally don't think Thibs goes very well with Flip.

x2, Billups would be great!

This is where Glen has to get involved. He publicly stated last year that it was not his preference that Flip wear two hats, but after Joerger turned us down at the alter, Flip was likely able to convince Glen that he was the best option...at least for the short term. I still think Glen wanted, and still wants, Hoiberg to coach this club. Now that Fred's season is over I expect, or at least hope, that Glen will stay in contact with Fred to gauge his interest.
Rose may be connected in the NBA, but let's not give him any credit for the KG ownership rumor...KG himself has said for awhile that he is interested in owning the Wolves. But at this point in time it's only a wish for KG...there have been NO talks between KG and the ownership group.
Glen Taylor wanted Sam to be coach

Billups has been quite clear that he likes doing the analyst work he is doing and might consider a front office job, but has no interest in coaching. Doesn't mean he won't change his mind sometime in the future, but for those of us that want a new coach next year, I don't see him as a candidate.

I think it's possible those guys might be people Flip would give up the reins for. I don't think that list is going to be very long though.
Thibs is going to have his choice of coaching gigs. Minny isn't that attractive compared to others for sure. Also Thibs is creditable enough that he can ask for a whoolle lot of control, something that Flip isn't going to give up already.
And Hoiberg's coaching style is almost the complete opposite of Flip's. Here's an article if you wanna read.

Here's the snippet that matters though:
Hoiberg, like a lot of smart NBA coaches, understands that not all shots are created equal. He's effectively eliminated the long two-point shot from his team's arsenal, and instead emphasizes attacking defenses at the rim and from behind the three-point line. It's a philosophy that's basically NBA dogma for anyone not named Byron Scott, but it's still overlooked in the college game to the extent that prizing efficiency gives the Cyclones a real edge over other, more talent-rich teams. Best of all, Hoiberg's players have completely bought in (via The Topeka Capital Journal):
That's the opposite of what Flip believes pretty much. Phil Jackson still runs the triangle even though it probably isn't the best system. Flip's pretty much the same way, hell we herd his opinions in training camp. Not sure he would fire all the country club assistant coaches, AND bring in someone whose the opposite of him

Glen owns about 95% of the team and makes it clear that everyone works for him. If he wanted Sam Mitchell to be the head coach, Sam would be the head coach today. I don't think Glen has the same relationship with Sam that he does with Freddy.

Yeah, it's clear to me that Hoiberg gets it. I loved that snippet about his coaching style, and it only makes me want him to replace Saunders even more.

Yeah, good stuff regarding Hoiberg and his philosophy. it might be the only way Flip can save face on this - throw as much money at Fred as it takes.

So forget Tibbs. We have the prideful mediocrity Flip, because Glen likes comfortable familiarity I guess. Hoiberg has a 10 year contract at 2.6 million a year. He'd be a fool to leave, and he's not a fool. He is as locked in as Iszzo at MSU.
Even if the Mayor did get bored, where do you think he'd coach? Chicago, where he is a playoff coach with or without Rose, or Minny, buried in the west, with Flip looking over his shoulder, trying to buy a shitty team from an owner he apparently has snowed.
FORGET THE MAYOR
