His behavior off the court alienates just about anyone associated with the organization. He's not a great practice player, and displays very little leadership. In short, he's a cancer even though he is a double double machine. Organizations that plan on winning big, don't mess around with a guy like this. The fact the Karl doesn't want him should come as no surprise.
Cool is completely right...how much does it say about a guy when he's had multiple coaches fired already, and the veteran coach that's there, wants to trade his young star.
You think he wanted Malone fired?
Nope, I don't. And maybe it's stretching it, but I think he didn't save Malone's job.

Yes! As in no to Rudy Gay and yes to Collison as a backup PG behind Rubio.
Collison is who we should get from sacramento. I make a scenario on how to get him in the bledsoe trade. He is the ideal backup pg for us. Can run the team, shoot, play d and play alongside rubio and play starter minutes if rubio gets injured. A young vet with leadership skills.
Basically, we keep a close eye on the kings, whether they get lawson or bledsoe or whoever. We make ourselves the third team with expirings like bud, bennet, 2 2nds, rights to bjelica and a trade exception(6m+) in the love trade as the chips to help facilitate a trade with collison going to us.

Judging by the regression in Cousin's play/attitude/demeanor after Malone's firing... it didn't seem like he was very happy about it.
Cousins never said a negative thing about Malone publicly... only good stuff. (He found out about the firing on Twitter.) Recently, he called the entire season a "complete circus." And for once... I don't blame him for it.
As for the Karl hiring, there were reports that there was going to be a conflict between Cousins and Karl even before the coach was hired. Sometimes, where there's smoke... there's fire.

Good players are what get you to the playoffs more so than good coaches. A player of Cousins' caliber should always be a higher priority to keep than the coach. Karl is another coach who thinks he's the MVP of a team winning games, but teams are built on players first and then coaches. If Demarcus and Karl can't work together I think they'd be utterly stupid to pick Karl in that situation.

Who says he won't get good players in return?
The odds of getting a player better than Cousins by trading Cousins are slim. How many superstar trades have netted the team trading the superstar a better player? So far none with Wiggins being the most hopeful.

Doesn't mean they can't win the trade. But you're right... if anything, it's a long-term win over immediate results.

Except Karl isn't a long-term coach so it doesn't fit. Trading the established star for hope with a coach who is going to do everything to get the all-time wins record sooner than later doesn't match up. He's 194 wins away which is 5 seasons winning 39 per season. By the time the team is prime for any real success he's gonna peace out as the all-time winningest coach.
