The most egregious were leaning Okafor over Towns because Towns was just too unproven offensively for me (funny that he turned out to be the polar opposite player I anticipated he would be) and thinking Anthony Bennett was an asset in the trade for Love. He dropped 16/8 on 53/37.5/70 splits in college. That guy should be a prototypical modern day 4 in the prime of his career right now but he just didn't have the mentality to make it. I still don't quite get how these guys don't figure things out mentally to make it in this league with hundreds of millions of dollars potentially on the table for the extremely talented guys. Congrats on making 40-50 million on your rookie deal. Your peers who put in the work just signed for 150-190 million. In the same light I though Fultz was gonna be a stud 3 level scorer who could defend in the NBA and his mental just went nuclear. Guess they need to get me in the interview room with these guys so I can get a better read on how much they want it for my extremely important forum predictions.
I thought Darrick Williams and Wes Johnson were going to be really good back when they were drafted. was I also thought Michael Beasley might become a star.
I didn't know at the time that Williams and Wes Johnson had little if any passion for the game or competitive drive. We all knew that Michael Beasley was knows as a head case coming out of college, but I brushed that information aside.
Those mistakes inform me now. That's why I don't like Edwards and McDaniels picks. One is surrounded by questions about his passion for the game and competitive drive or motor, while the other is regarded as a head case. I hope I'm as wrong about those two guys as I was about Derrick Williams and smiling Wes.
I thought the Golden State Warriors were nuts for pulling out of the Kevin Love sweepstakes in 2014. I thought they would be one of the two best trade partners both for what they could send back to Minnesota as well as what they could accomplish with Love. Theoretically, he fit incredibly well with Steph Curry and they would have been a dynamic duo, especially in pick-and-pop action.
When Marc Stein was still at ESPN he reported that Bob Myers was ready to send David Lee, Klay Thompson, and a first-round pick (or Harrison Barnes) for Love and Kevin Martin. But then the deal got to Jerry West and he basically vetoed it. That was that. I thought the Warriors would really regret that decision. I thought they were arrogant at the time for killing the deal over Thompson. Instead, they made it abundantly clear that they would be re-signing him. That trade would have changed two franchises, the future of the league, and basketball history forever.
Of all the basketball takes I've had, that's the one that taught me the most. Don't get me wrong -- I thought Thompson was a good player, but never did I think he would go on to have a Hall of Fame career and be widely considered one of the two or three best shooters to ever play the game as well as an integral part of a dynasty.
At the time, I remember being excited at the possibility of getting Klay Thompson for Love, but I'll admit, I was more excited about Maple Jordan and all that hype.
OK, We've all made some really dumb calls over the years. But here's what's really depressing. Each of the many Wolves' Presidents of Basketball Operations has made far more blunders than any one of us and probably more than all of us combined. And they have a lot more information than us. Maybe the dumbest thing of all is our decision to remain Wolves fans. :)

I've bought too many pieces of Wolves merchandise to go back now. I'm all in. Ride or die! Here come the tears...

This is so sad. Because that is likely most people here.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one! I liked Dunn because I felt he brought some high-level defensive chops and an edge. Of course, the Timberwolves Laws of Nature don't allow us to have someone that can be both good on defense and learn to shoot, thus he didn't work out.
Still....he is an impact defender and will have a place in an NBA guard rotation for many years.
