While I agree with the "addition by subtraction", I don't think your appreciating the "veteran presence" Mo adds to the roster.
Bud was interviewed during one of the summer league games. One question was about hazing, and who is the most likely "instigator" on the Wolves roster. Barea was the answer...
Whenever people use the term "veteran presence", I see it as an optimistic way of saying they are older and mediocre. That would be Mo Williams.
I agree Q. It is very similar to saying a guy won't hurt you, which is another way of saying he has no skills and shouldn't be touching the ball (Hummel anyone). I can't believe you have a problem with signing Mo for 3.7, but you are OK with the Hummel signing.
Not to beat a dead horse (too late), but why did Flip sign Hummel now? Why not wait till the Love thing shook out. Not too likely that he was getting other offers. We now have a full roster, but hopefully several moves to make. Flip said he wanted 2 way players. The closest Robbie comes to that is falling down while running both directions.
Hummel is the least of my worries, if we a good return for Love who really cares about the 15th man on the roster. Not saying it was a good move just an insignificant one in the grand scheme of things

+ 1000
I love how people get all out of whack because we signed a vet min guy that Flip was just impulse bought or something. lol
I'm not sure who is "all out of whack" , but the fact that he is a vet min guy (without the vet part) is exactly the point. Why waste a roster spot on a guy that shouldn't see the floor, when we may have better options out there?
Mo is cheaper, taller and a better shooter than JJ. That sounds like an upgrade for us. It's not game changing, but the guy will be playing for a contract so that helps with his motivation. We just have to hope he doesn't see us as a bad team where he just chucks up shots to try to look better for that next deal.
Also, Hummel is making the minimum to ride the bench. That's what you're supposed to do with guys 11-15. I don't want to sign every player on the team with the expectation that they get playing time during the year because that is just not going to happen. You can plug Hummel in at any time and you know what you are going to get, he's not going to complain about playing time and if everything goes right you'll never have to play him anyway and he's not going to care because he's happy to be on an NBA roster. You should really have no more than 9 or 10 guys realistically getting playing time, guys 11 and 12 should only exist to be injury filler and guys 13-15 should never see the court for you in a season. That's why you fill those spots with guys who are just happy to be on a roster because they give you no drama and take the league minimum essentially as moral boosters and being good teammates.

Well you said beating a dead horse and then Cam said +1000. I guess that horse (Hummel) is glue about now so you guys are right we shouldn't sign him. Also I was just kinda joking around.
I have more mixed feelings than many of you. If we were going for a playoff push, I'd be more thrilled as he can be a quality rotation player now. He'll be 32 in December and so I don't see him being a rotation player when we are ready to be serious contenders. My main concern is if he pushes a young player off the roster such as GR3, then I'll be unhappy. If he merely pushes a Berea, Luc or Shved off the roster, I won't care. So my enthusiasm for this signing is tempered for now.

Nah, Flip just signs guys whenever he feels like it. He doesn't have any plans or trades lined up behind the scenes. Why do you think we signed Mo? Obviously we are going to go with an all-PG lineup this year.
I think the Hummel signing means GR3 is not making the team. I think it is a little premature for that. Or it could mean Love will not sign with another team if they don't acquire Hummel too.

He did, but he also went to the free throw line at a decent rate, which helped his overall efficiency. I don't mind guys that are good at mid-range jumpers, but they need more than that to be truly efficient. If Mo's 3-ball is falling, he should be fine.
Steph Curry might be the only NBA player that could score efficiently using only mid-range jumpers and nothing else. He's that good of a shooter.
