It’s an extension before FA. There is not going to be a sign and trade. If that was something that was on the table Naz was gonna go to FA and he didn’t.KG4Ever wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 6:03 pm Well, if we can sign and trade Naz this is great news! If it means Kat is traded, it will depend on the return whether this move is good. If it means we do nothing more than sign NAW and don't upgrade with another guard in free agency or via trade, I probably dislike this move. Time will tell.

Correct Naz can’t be traded until December nowMonster wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 6:13 pmIt’s an extension before FA. There is not going to be a sign and trade. Well - I think this is more word play. Last year the Wolves signed Patrick Beverley to an extension on Feb. 15th. He was later traded on July 6th. I wouldn't assume Naz is here for the duration of his contract...we're not sure what the full plan is yet.Monster wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 6:13 pmIt’s an extension before FA. By my calculation, even if Naz gets the full $14M this year, we can still re-sign NAW at around $5 and keep Prince as one of 14 players on our roster. My calculation assumes we sign Clark at the League Minimum $1.2M for next season and Miller at $1.8M, which is $2M less than the rookie scale salary for the 30th pick. My projection also assumes a luxury tax threshold of $165M. Assuming our current 10 roster players (including Prince) plus the two rookies, we’re $20M under the luxury tax threshold. Add Naz Reid’s $14M and we have $6M left to sign NAW. Assuming we sign NAW starting at $5M, we’ll have a 14-player roster with about $1M of breathing room under the luxury tax. If we have $1.2M left over (which is possible) then we’ll have enough to sign another vet for the 15th roster spot.kekgeek wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 4:25 pm For lux tax this year a couple of things.
Wolves have about 21 million to spend before Naz.
We don’t know the breakdown of Naz contract he could be making less this year and it increases next year.
Wolves don’t need to be under the tax when the season starts.
Wolves can save 300k by cutting Jmac and signing a vet Min.
This contract increases the chances of Miller and Clark getting NBA contracts and not 2 ways because it’s cost saving. Wolves will probably have about 4-5 million to use on Naw annually. Without going over the tax line.
Bottom line is, this move more than likely means Prince will be gone and probably takes the Morris/Tyus trade speculation away. This is what the assumption the wolves ownership does not want to go over the lux tax
Hey lip the reason I said Prince is he is a guy who could have value coming back and we could have young replacements coming in.
I didn’t want to make multiple posts but you Knight for Garza swap actually hurts us financially but 200k about. Obviously not much but it is something when the numbers are so close.
I do think this naz signing eliminates us for the wizards PGs
Re: Naz Reid Ain't Going Anywhere! (re-upped for 3 years $42 mil)
I think what Monster is saying this is not an agreed sign and trade. Naz is on the wolves roster until minimum December. We can’t take Naz (his salary) and trade him for a pieceMonster wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 6:13 pmIt’s an extension before FA. There is not going to be a sign and trade. Re: Naz Reid Ain't Going Anywhere! (re-upped for 3 years $42 mil)
Monster -- if Naz opts out of his player option to become a FA, as a 6 year player he'll be able to sign a max contract of 25% of the cap. If he opts in and becomes a FA after year his 7th year, he'll be eligible for 30% of the cap! (yeah, not happenin')
Re: Naz Reid Ain't Going Anywhere! (re-upped for 3 years $42 mil)
I will say I do really like that Rudy and Naz come off the books in the same year. Could be a chance to reevaluate Ant and Mcdaniels time line

Agreed.Carlos Danger wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 4:23 pmGood stuff. I appreciate the salary cap updates. I hope they bring back NAW. He showed me enough last year to be worth $5-$6M/year. I'd much rather see minutes go to guys with some potential upside vs. 30 year old guys like Bryan Forbes or Austin Rivers.
Get NAW signed anywhere from 5-8.
If it gets so bad that we need to rely on anyone else, all is lost, so make Freddy from the YMCA dream a reality and offer him $500 to suit up for each game.
Re: Naz Reid Ain't Going Anywhere! (re-upped for 3 years $42 mil)
Or a team that has the cap space...Monster wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 8:49 pmTim just to clarify are those numbers what the Wolves can offer him having his bird rights?
There were a number of teams that have created cap space for this offseason, so NAZ could have received a tempting offer. It's pretty cool that his no longer on the market!
