The bottom line is Speilman isn't going anywhere. I don't want him to either. He and Zimmer have a good synergy they look for similar players and that's a good thing. I think you can put fault at them for not doing a better job of building the oline but man this is just getting crazy. They had even found a guy in Long who it seems was rounding into form and down he went.

Another consideration is This team used to have basically no QBs and now they may have 2 legit options at QB if Teddy comes back healthy and a developmental guy in Heinicke that there is positive buzz about. At this point it seems like the franchise is gonna have to sell out big time to shore up that oline. It might mean overpaying both in draft picks and signing a guy or 2.

Agreed monster. I not happy we didnt go after Foles and drafted Beaver, but otherwise they have done well with depth. The OL seemed solid in the spring with a lot of depth but people just kept going down. Only thing i would have done is kept Sully around.

Ponder
Kalil
Smith
Floyd
Rhodes
Patterson
Barr
Bridgewater
Waynes
Treadwell

That's Spielman's record for the first round. Not great. Smith, Rhodes and maybe Barr and Bridgewater and a bunch of mediocre to terrible players. 4/9 (took Treadwell out because he doesn't count yet) in the first round doesn't cut it in my book. That's less than 50% quality starters and that's what that round is supposed to provide if not more.

I'm curious from your perspective how does that stackup against other teams? I hope you give some examples of other team's drafts from that stretch.

The number 1 team in the NFC Dallas Cowboys including 2010 (we didn't have a 1st round pick that year):

Dez
Tyron Smith
Mo Claiborne
Travis Frederick
Zach Martin
Byron Jones
Zeke

That's 2 superstar skill players and 3 of the starting linemen on one of the best offensive lines of all time with one bust in Claiborne. 6/7 are starters.

Pittsburgh

Pouncey
Heyward
DeCastro
Jones
Shazier
Dupree
Burns

2 Pro Bowl offensive linemen and 3 of their 4 starting linebackers (when Dupree gets healthy) and a starting DE. 6/7 starters.

KC Chiefs

Berry
Baldwin
Poe
Fisher
Ford
Peters

4 defensive starters and their starting left tackle with only 1 bust. 5/6 starters.

Denver Broncos

A little closer to our level, but their top is much higher than ours.

Thomas
Tebow
Miller
Williams
Roby
Ray
Lynch

1 bust. 2 defensive starters with one of them a DPOY candidate. 1 top tier WR. 2 defensive backups and a QB in waiting.

Pats, Raiders, Seahawks have not had 2+ first round picks in that window so I don't count their draft record against ours.

Those are the top teams in football right now. Anyone I miss that you want me to look up because based on this list Spielman has a terrible track record drafting compared to the top teams in the league.

Fair enough. I appreciate you doing that.

I'll say this about Spielman's 1st rounders you listed. Some of them are incomplete imo although yeah you want those guys to be contributors more quickly. In contrast Zeke walked into a dream scenario for a RB. 2 of those 1st round picks Kalil and Floyd have injury issues likely holding them back from being at the very least more worthwhile. CP hasn't been good enough for what the team gave up to get him and yet if he somehow ends up being a legit WR which there seems to be some hope for based on this season (he turns 26 in March) that would help but it sorta took forever IF it happened.

How many teams can survive and still be good despite blowing first round picks on a QB and a LT? That's usually an news. It the team still is pretty stocked with talent (except Oline which is a big problem everyone agrees on) so...time to fix it next year draft the hell out of oline and maybe grab another RB plus spend some $$$$$ on an olineman. It's not going to be easy but building a defense isn't either.
