Re: Trade Talks Update
I'm torn between wanting a good return for Butler and not wanting anything and enjoying the circus. If Butler returns, the sideshow will be more entertaining than the game.

Re: Trade Talks Update

Sources on @TheAthleticNBA @WatchStadium: Minnesota and Miami have seriously discussed several frameworks of a potential deal for Jimmy Butler, including ones with Heat's Josh Richardson. Medicals shared both ways. Timberwolves do not appear any closer a deal.

Re: Trade Talks Update
Final one (got to turn to Dolphins):
Josh Richardson and Bam Adebayo are NOT in the proposed deal.
Never have been.

So miami is likely offering t.johnson + winslow or 1st for jimmy.
Or
Jimmy and dieng fot t.johnson, whiteside, and a 1st.

Re: Trade Talks Update
Minnesota and Miami had been discussing deals that included a third team to take on salary, as well as doing a direct trade between only the Timberwolves and Heat, league sources said. Miami had softened on including guard Josh Richardson in versions of a possible deal for Butler, only to recoil once Minnesota pushed late for a sweeter return on the four-time All-Star forward, league sources said.

Dont know if thibs is refusing to trade jimmy or if he is talking to cam and doesnt think highly of the heat young guys.

What I think is that Richardson is on the table but we have to take back a salary/player the Heat don't want like Waiters. What's likely holding up the deal is a 1st round pick coming to MN. That's doesn't seem that unreasonable.
Re: Trade Talks Update
No way of knowing exactly what's been happening or who has done what. But these reports simply reinforce the image of dysfunction in the Wolves organization. Hard to know what the "late push for a sweeter return" really means in this context. Maybe it means Miami thought they had a deal that included Richardson but not Bam or a pick based on conversations in one channel (PBO to PBO or owner to owner), subsequently being told by the Wolves through another channel that more was needed. Knowing how unclear Glen can be sometimes as a communicator, I can see where he might have given Miami's owner the impression that a deal was acceptable when, in fact, Glen had already agreed with Thibodeau and Layden that more was required.
If we're doing a deal with Miami, we had better get Richardson AND either Bam or Miami's 2019 first round pick with no worse than top 10 protection. That's all that matters at this point. What concerns me is what appears to be the Wolves insistence that Gorgui be part of this deal in an obvious attempt to dump his salary. As you know, that's been my concern from the beginning. By insisting that a team take a bad salary you obviously reduce the player value you get in return. This is not a time to be pinching pennies. This is a time to get as much talent as possible with a longer term focus. That means young talent and draft picks. Involving a third team like the Kings to take Gorgui's salary means the Kings would get the draft picks that the Wolves should insist on getting in any deal for Butler.

Re: Trade Talks Update
I'm fine with keeping Gorgui if it means getting a better deal. Its not like we need to clear space to sign KD, Kawhi or Klay or did I miss something? lol

You might be right about that. But I'm thinking it might be something as simple as the following: Glen and Miami's owner agreed to a simple swap of Butler and Gorgui for Richardson and Whiteside. Then Thibodeau insisted on also getting Miami's 1st rd pk as part of the deal - something that Glen absent-mindedly glossed over in his owner-to-owner discussions. If that's the case, I'm totally with Thibodeau on this. Butler is a huge upgrade over Richardson, especially in the near term and Riley clearly has a more near-term focus than the Wolves. Moreover, it's widely known that Riley has been trying to get rid of Whiteside for over a year now. Getting Butler and Gorgui for Whiteside and Richardson instantly makes the Heat the odds on favorite for the 4th seed in the East with the possibility of cracking the top 3. It allows Miami to get rid of the malcontent, Whiteside, and his bloated contract and it allows the Heat to keep their top young prospect, Adebayo. Meanwhile, Butler's agent and Dwayne Wade are, not doubt, pushing Miami to deal for Butler. As I see it, the Wolves have some significant leverage with the Heat that we don't have with most other teams that might have an interest in Jimmy. The Wolves need to exert every bit of that leverage.
I'll even be disappointed if it's Richardson, Whiteside and Miami's top 10 protected 2019 first. I remain convinced that a good organization that knew how to negotiate could get both Richardson and Bam for Butler. But alas, we have an unprofessional, dysfunctional organization that can't pull off a deal like that. So we sure as hell better get Miami's first round pick with no more than top 10 protection along with Richardson and Whiteside if, in fact, those are the two Miami players on the table.
